Job Description

The Materials and Structural Analysis Electron Microscopy (M&SA EM) business enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries and ultimately change the world. The M&SA EM business designs manufactures and supports the broadest range of highperformance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro nano and picometer scales.

Location Specific Information:

Role primarily based in Albany area but will also periodically support customers Malta MidHudson valley and Burlignton VT Travel expectation 2550.

How will you make an impact

Combining hardware and software expertise in electron ion and light microscopy with deep application knowledge in the materials science life sciences electronics and natural resources markets the worldwide Electron Microscopy employees are dedicated to customers pursuit of discovery and resolution to global challenges.

A Day in the Life:

  • Conduct onsite installation of sophisticated equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure accurate working order
  • Conduct onsite scheduled planned maintenance visits
  • Provide diagnosis and repair support for customers and other field personnel
  • Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers system users and company personnel
  • Travel often on short notice to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field service personnel
  • Complete and submit field service reports
  • Provide training to customers and users on system maintenance
  • Give feedback to product quality teams
  • Provide appropriate input in writing updating and correcting various Thermo Fisher system documentation
  • Provide guidance for various reports including identifying and isolating outstanding problems with the system
  • Act as a subject expert and resource for training

How will you get here

This position is ideal for an expert service engineer wanting to be involved with a team with varied strengths and exposed to a constant variety of customer application areas.

Education

  • Minimum education requirement is bachelors degree or 7 years equivalent education and experience in electronic systems

Experience

  • 5 years of handson technical experience installing troubleshooting repairing and calibrating sophisticated analysis tools such as SEM TEM FIB or similar systems is ideal
  • A detailed understanding and extensive experience diagnosing and repairing ultrahigh vacuum and high voltage systems.

Knowledge Skills Abilities

  • Ability to deal effectively with customers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must have a professional working proficiency in English
  • Consistent record of fixing sophisticated systems and subsystems down to the component level
  • Literate in MS DOS and Windows software environments
  • Able to read and interpret schematics
  • Familiar with UHV phenomenon and technology
  • Must have ability to acquire a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required
  • Must possess a valid drivers license
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in New York is $28.85$43.27.
