GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) is committed to public safety and provides offenders with secure and humane treatment that gives them every opportunity for rehabilitation. WDOC is seeking a highly motivated leader for the position of Correctional Investigation Major. This position will be responsible for managing the Investigations Unit and directly supervising subordinate staff. This position is responsible for overseeing administrative and criminal investigations within the WDOC. This position is a direct report to the Director of WDOC This position requires frequent travel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.

  • Directly supervises and evaluates the performance of investigators dog handlers and support staff.
  • Directs plans conducts and coordinates activities of review/investigation teams in administrative investigations within the Department of Corrections.
  • Conducts and/or supervises administrative investigations of allegations of offender inmate and/or staff misconduct serious incidents or violation of departmental and state policy and laws.
  • Interviews witnesses and coordinates polygraph examinations.
  • Collects evidence/handles evidence and writes reports.
  • Advises WDOC senior management on findings and testifies in administrative hearings and courts.
  • Acts as liaison between WDOC and law enforcement.
  • Develops and updates policy related to the subject area and trains WDOC staff on policy and investigative techniques.
  • Coordinates WDOCwide intelligence gathering storage and analysis related to security and criminal matters including security threat group activities.
  • Works cooperatively with Human Resources as required.
  • Must be able to be firearms certified by Wyoming POST

Qualifications


PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice experience working investigations in a correctional law enforcement or military setting and supervision experience. Additionally certification from the American Corrections Association as a certified Corrections Supervisor or certified Corrections Manager is a preference.

**Department Applicants not holding Wyoming POST certification mustbe awarded certification within 6 months of employment.
**Required to be certified as a correctional officer (basic advanced or professional) through the Wyoming Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)
