Job Description Summary

The Lead SMR Mechanical Systems Engineer demonstrates accountability for functional business and broad company objectives. This is a technical position that integrates and develops processes that meet business needs across the organization and requires longterm planning. This role contributes to the overall strategy of the business and manages complex issues within the Mechanical Nuclear Island Support Systems (MNISS) team.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for MNISS engineering activities that support the BWRX300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) design.
  • Activities focus on the following:
  • 1 Determination of radioactive material content in various gaseous liquid process and effluent streams
  • 2 Measurement indication and recording of gamma radiation levels at strategic locations throughout the plant
  • 3 Monitoring of multiple parameters inside containment
  • 4)Collection of representative liquid and gaseous samples for analysis.
  • Responsible for development of facility drawings and component specifications.
  • Plan/develop technical and management processes to improve both team and customer productivity.
  • Provide support to the Licensing organization for regulatory related deliverables.
  • Responsible for analysis and design work supporting requirements specifications.
  • Interface with crossfunctional teams and departments to complete these tasks.
  • Improve areas of project and department management through Six Sigma methodology.
  • Support development efforts for both new products and new technology.
  • Responsible to undertake the necessary corrective and preventive actions resulting from Quality noncompliance monitoring and audit programs.
  • Responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean Action Work Outs (LAWO).
  • A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead design activities. Develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in mechanical nuclear Engineering or other applicable engineering discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in an Engineering role.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Work onsite 2 days a week in Markham.

Desired Characteristics

  • Advanced engineering degree.
  • SRO license qualifications.
  • Strong Leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of working within a regulated environment (nuclear).
  • Knowledge of quality standards and systems (e.g. NQA1 and ISO 9000.
  • Strong organization skills and problemsolving abilities.
  • Prior experience in system delivery of complex analyses.
  • Strong customer mindset.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and cope under pressure.
  • Six Sigma training is preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
