:1 Licensed Vocational Nurse 190 Days @ Health Services

Purpose:
Education/Certification:
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid Texas license (LVN) issued by the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners
- Current cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) certificates
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of basic first aid
- Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
- Ability to use software to develop databases and do word processing
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Practical working knowledge of nursing procedures and techniques
Experience:
- One 1 year experience in healthrelated position; experience working with schoolage children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Nursing Services
- Provide direct care using school health protocols and individualized health plans (IHPs) established by the RN supervisor or medical advisor.
- Provide basic first aid and care for minor injuries and illness according to a detailed protocol established by the school nurse or medical advisor
- Administer medication to students according to board policy and district procedures.
- Carry out mandatory screening programs collect data and complete required reports as directed.
- Communicate with parents regarding individual students as directed by the school nurse (RN).
- Participate in Admission Review and Dismissal Committee (ARD) meeting of students with identifiable health needs if the RN is unable and collaborate with appropriate staff and RN regarding implementation of healthrelated Individual Education Plan (IEP) items.
- Provide guidance to unlicensed assistive personnel or other school staff on health related tasks as directed by the RN.
- Work with children individually or in a small group
- Communicate with student and helping understand lessons
- Provide basic caregiving duties such as toileting and feeding
- Maintain current clinical skills and competence
- Provide chronic disease management and education including gastrostomy feedings tracheostomy care catheterizations
- SHARS
- Escort students to and from classroom and assist students with disabilities as necessary
- Other duties assigned
Clerical
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records including immunization records medication administration records and individual student treatment records.
- Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required including accurate confidential health records on all students.
Compliance
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws Texas Department of Health rule State Board of Education rule and board policy in health services area. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain HIPAA and FERPA confidentiality.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Monitor the work and issue work assignments to health clinic aide and health services aide.
Evaluation
Performance of this position will be evaluated by a campus administrator on the LVN evaluation form. Registered Nurse observation records will also be used in the cumulative/annual evaluation.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard medical clinic equipment including automated external defibrillator (AED); blood pressure monitor audiometer glucometer titmus vision machine suction machine and other medical equipment necessary for the delivery of specialized healthcare procedures; special needs adaptive equipment; and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Frequent standing sitting kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing pulling and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking grasping/squeezing wrist flexion/extension
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require regular heavy lifting 45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint assisting nonambulatory students
Environment: Exposure to biological hazards bacteria and communicable diseases
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Salary Range: Min$37918 Mid$43401 Max$48887 (Based on previous experience)
Salary Schedule
Salary is based on working 190 days; working less days is less salary
