Job Summary:

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Department of Anesthesiology has an opening for a fulltime Obstetric Anesthesiologist at the faculty rank of Assistant Professor Associate Professor or Professor to join our Obstetric Anesthesia Section. The chief responsibility of the department is to assure the best possible outcomes for our patients having surgical operations painful invasive procedures and childbirth. The University of Colorado affiliated hospitals have top nationally recognized physicians delivering the best possible anesthetic care as well as a full range of perioperative care. The anesthesiologist provides specialized care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

The attending obstetric anesthesiologist administers care alone or supervises physiciansintraining (residents) certified registered nurse anesthetists and certified anesthesiologist assistants. When working alone he/she/they examines the patient before and after anesthesia writes pre and post anesthesia orders confirms that the patient is ready for anesthesia before induction manages the anesthetic period and follows the patient as long as is appropriate in the post anesthesia period.

This role involves providing comprehensive anesthesia care for highrisk obstetric patients including labor analgesia managing perioperative care during obstetric procedures and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal maternal and fetal outcomes. Additionally the obstetric anesthesiologist will provide solo obstetric and fetal anesthesia care at the Colorado Fetal Care Center located at the Childrens Hospital Colorado on the Anschutz Medical Campus. This position offers ample opportunities for clinical education as well as potential leadership roles in various academic and clinical settings. The position is fulltime and will be assigned clinical duties in any of the University of Colorado School of Medicine affiliated hospitals to include University of Colorado Hospital affiliates.

The candidate must have a strong working and theoretical knowledge of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine experience in teaching Anesthesiology and a fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesiology.

As an attending anesthesiologist the candidate may be required to perform these services in the operating room in the labor and delivery area in radiology and in the outpatient procedure center. Except in specific emergency situations the administration of anesthesia is limited to areas where anesthesia can be given safely. One or more attendings will be available at all times to provide these services.

As faculty members of the School of Medicine candidates are also expected to contribute to the teaching needs of the Department and the School. This may include but is not limited to preparing and delivering lectures serving as a preceptor and providing oneonone instruction. Attending anesthesiologists as faculty members are also expected to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the specialty by way of clinical or laboratory research.

  • All are expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists (board eligible) or a Diplomat of the Board or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
  • Applicants must be fellowshiptrained in obstetric anesthesiology

Associate Professor:

  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.
  • All are expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists (board eligible) or a Diplomat of the Board or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
  • Must meet the SOMs requirements for Associate Professor rank. If hired at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor the candidates title will be designated Visiting and the candidate will be required to submit their dossier through the promotions process in order to remove the visiting designation.
  • Applicants must be fellowshiptrained in obstetric anesthesiology

Professor:

  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.
  • All are expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists (board eligible) or a Diplomat of the Board or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

The starting salary range or hiring range for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

The base salary range/rate or hiring range/rate has been established based on faculty rank and is intended to compensate for scheduled daily clinical work Monday through Friday. The above salaries are basesalary only and do not include variable compensation such as call and incentive pay.
