Job Description

The College of Human Development Culture and Media at Seton Hall University invites applications for a tenuretrack position in literacy education in the Department of Educational Studies. We seek candidates to join a teaching and research community focused on the preparation of K6 teachers. The successful applicantwill be committed to preparing teacher candidates in the use of evidence based instructional practices and culturally responsive pedagogy to support diverse learners across a range of educational settings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The development and teaching of graduate and undergraduate level courses in literacy education.
Teaching a 9credit semester load in literacy and education related courses.
Maintain a research agenda
Participate in university college and department committee work.
Advise undergraduate students in the elementary education programs.

Required Qualifications:

A Ph.D. or Ed.D. from an accredited institution completed by August 2025.
Specialization in literacy education with a particular emphasis in elementary education and literacy acquisition.
A record of or potential for scholarly accomplishments.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience in literacy instruction in K6 elementary settings.
Experience teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses with demonstrated effectiveness (preferably in education related content).
A foundation in research on reading and writing development and instruction as well as an understanding of policy debates regarding literacy and the effects on realworld practices.
Evidence of instructional practices including culturally responsive approaches to literacy to support acquisition development and comprehension for multilingual learners struggling readers and students with disabilities.
Experience or interest in interdisciplinary conversations research and academic innovation across the campus.
