Job Description

SUBSTITUTE CUSTODIAN

Location: DistrictWide

Hours: Variable

Rate: $17.14 per hour

JOB DESCRIPTION

To maintain the school buildings and efficient management of the facility as to usefulness appearance safety hazards cleanliness and minor repairs not requiring skilled tradesman. Other jobrelated duties will be assigned. The substitute custodian will perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  3. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  4. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position as indicated by taking and passing a physicalcapacity exam after job offer and before employment begins.
  5. Must pass a basic skills test.
  6. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  7. Must pass a background check which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
  8. Must be available MF primarily swing shift.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  1. Has knowledge of and can demonstrate general custodial skills.
  2. Strong work ethic and a selfstarting ability.
  3. Able to organize time well; initiate work.
  4. Able to read and write in English and follow directions/instructions and perform basic math calculations.
  5. Able to work cooperatively as a member of the custodial team to accomplish specific goals.
  6. Able to present a positive image for the school district and willing to follow District policies and procedures.
  7. Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
  8. Excellent attendance punctuality dependability selfdisciplined and a selfstarter.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Accomplish all tasks in a professional manner.
  2. Secure building.
  3. Conduct regular inspections of the facility and report needed repairs on work order forms.
  4. Set up for special programs.
  5. Make minor repairs (chairs tables etc..
  6. Perform general labor as needed: i.e. moving equipment desks tables etc.
  7. Perform related duties as assigned by principal.
  8. Work cooperatively with students teachers and administrators.
  9. Possess basic operational knowledge of and ability to operate custodial equipment and the heating/cooling systems.
  10. Raise/lower flags.
  11. Use power equipment and hand tools such as shovel broom mop squeegee burnish and vacuum required for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors wall carpets and furniture.
  12. Clean and sanitize toilets shower rooms and fixtures.
  13. Empty wastebaskets and trash containers.
  14. Dust furniture and light fixtures; clean chalkboards and erasers.
  15. Sweep mop and polish floors. Wash windows.
  16. Replace light bulbs tissue and other restroom supplies.
  17. Clean sidewalks and keep driveway litter free perform snow and ice removal.
  18. Perform all other related duties as assigned by supervisor pertaining to job classification. Performs all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures including regular attendance and punctuality.

  • Language Skills: Ability to read product labels and procedures. Ability to write effectively and use email correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add subtract multiply and divide whole numbers fractions and decimal numbers. Ability to calculate percentages proportions area circumference and volume.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Mobility: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls. The employee is sometimes required to sit frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand walk climb or balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl. Employee will frequently use ladders while performing daily responsibilities.
  • Senses: The employee is often required to listen to slight variations in pitch amplitude and frequency. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person over the telephone and by using the district radio communications system. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Lifting: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds.

  • Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts; in high precarious places; in outside weather conditions; and may be exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee will occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals extreme cold extreme heat and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may on occasion be loud and require hearing protection. Working on rooftops and confined spaces occasionally occur in the performance of daily job responsibilities.
