SCHEDULE: Fulltime 60 hours biweekly)

ABOUT INUVIALUIT REGIONAL CORPORATION (IRC)

IRC was created in 1984 to represent the Inuvialuit and their rights and benefits obtained under one of Canadas oldest comprehensive land claim agreements. With assets over $1 billion not including vast land holdings IRC is responsible for corporate investment land management and a broad range of social cultural and economic programs and services benefiting Inuvialuit. Its subsidiaries have interests in grocery manufacturing property management transportation and significant dealings in the oil and gas industry.

Since its inception IRC has experienced considerable growth and its structure and operations have become increasingly complex. Combining local government and service delivery community development investment and operating business divisions all managed by a single back office the organization has an array of complexities for the executive staff to navigate. There is an emphasis on fostering understanding healing and resilience in a region brimming with unique social challenges and immense potential for transformative change.

JOB SUMMARY

Inuvialuit Community Economic Development Organization (ICEDO) invites applications for the position of Greenhouse Worker in Inuvik NT. Under the guidance of the Director of ICEDO the applicant will be responsible for providing country food to all beneficiaries. The ICEDO Greenhouse Employee plays a key role in providing healthy foods to Inuvialuit in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR) Communities. Training will be provided to instruct applicants of all necessary skills related to growing harvesting and supporting greenhouse operations.


QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be/have:

  • Experience gardening and horticulture is considered an asset.
  • Experience operating gardening and lawn equipment is an asset.
  • Safe Food Handling certification preferred.
  • Time management
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision or as a team

The incumbent must demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Demonstrate sound work ethics
  • Pleasant disposition
  • Motivated and willing to learn
  • Likes working in various weather conditions
  • Good communication and customer service skills

The incumbent will be provided training onthejob or be proficient in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Canada Labour Code as it applies to the worker
  • Knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
  • Ability to read and understand labels and instructions particularly on the use and application of chemicals products equipment and machinery; and
  • Knowledge of organic gardening techniques an asset
  • Decision making
  • Problem solving

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift carry push and pull heavy loads.
  • Requires bending kneeling climbing and standing for extended periods.
  • Must be comfortable working in outdoor conditions with exposure to various weather elements.
