Job Description
The Department of Management in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech seeks applications for one tenuretrack faculty position to begin August 2024. This position is for the main campus in Blacksburg Virginia with opportunities for teaching and program development in the Greater Washington D. C. area as well. This search is specifically at the level of assistant or associate professor so we are interested in recent graduates as well as those who are tenured associate professors at strong research institutions. This is a macro (entrepreneurship innovation strategy international business) position and we are particularly interested in candidates with strong research and teaching interests in technology entrepreneurship corporate innovation technology commercialization and related areas. The Department of Management consists of 30 fulltime faculty with an impressive range of leadingedge research and teaching expertise in various areas of management. Our current faculty have published very recently in top journals including Academy of Management Journal Academy of Management Review Strategic Management Journal Journal of International Business Studies Organization Science Journal of Applied Psychology Journal of Management Journal of Business Venturing Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal and Academy of Management Annals.
Recent accolades received by the Department of Management and its research and instructional programs in entrepreneurship include the # 25 ranking in the Princeton Reviews list of top undergraduate programs in entrepreneurship for two years in a row the Model Program Award for entrepreneurship education from the USASBE in 2022 and the top research award (tied with Texas A&M) from the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers for exceptional contributions in entrepreneurship research. Our current doctoral students have papers accepted in elite journals before they go to the job market. Our recognition and reputation have risen and continue to rise in many ways.
Virginia Tech has 37000 students including 7000 graduate students. Virginia Techs $1B Innovation Campus in Northern Virginia is a key part of a longterm strategy to build worldclass research and educational programs in technology entrepreneurship and innovation in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Virginia Tech has developed an impressive research record and the research portfolio and impact continue to rise .
The Pamplin College of Business offers several majors through the various departments. The Department of Managements academic programs include four undergraduate majors two interdisciplinary minors and a fulltime Ph.D. program. The department is a strong contributor to five masters programs the topranked Master of Information Technology Program and the Executive Ph.D. program. Most of the masters programs and the Executive Ph.D. program will soon move to the 11story 300000 squarefoot building located in Arlington Virginia. Virginia Tech recently opened the 1st building of the Global Business Analytics Complex on its main campus in Blacksburg and the plan is underway for the 2nd building specifically for the Pamplin College of Business
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have: 1 a doctorate in Management Entrepreneurship or a closely related field from an AACSB accredited or similar school; 2 a strong program of scholarly research with evidence of high impact scholarly research through publications or advanced stage under review in top journals; 3 a clear research plan and trajectory in entrepreneurship or related areas; and 4 instructional capabilities at the undergraduate MBA and doctoral levels.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have: 1 research at the intersection of technology entrepreneurship innovation and strategic management; 2 overlap of research interests with those of the current faculty in the department; 3 demonstrated teaching effectiveness; 4 work experience in entrepreneurship management consulting managerial analytics or related areas.
