Job Description

INTRODUCTION

The School of Computing at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a tenured/tenuretrack faculty position at the Assistant Associate or full Professor level. This position seeks to advance research and education in the vast field of computing within the School of Computing and the University and strong candidates in all areas of computer science and engineering are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates in the areas of Computer Architecture Computer Systems and Programming Languages.

The School of Computing at UConn harbors a rich environment of instruction and research offering four rigorous bachelors degrees two masters degrees a Ph.D. degree and a worldclass research enterprise. The school has experienced unprecedented growth in the last five years leading to new and exciting education and research initiatives for faculty and students. Current faculty are engaged in groundbreaking research in computing areas including security machine learning bioinformatics systems and networking and big data analytics. For the more than 1300 undergraduate and 150 graduate students this topnotch college experience is heightened by the schools successful recruiting of awardwinning faculty to train the next generation of computer scientists and engineers. It is the states flagship institution of higher education and includes a main campus in Storrs CT four regional campuses throughout the state and 13 Schools and Colleges including a Law School in Hartford and Medical and Dental Schools at the UConn Health campus in Farmington. The University has approximately 10000 faculty and staff and 32000 students including nearly 24000 undergraduates and over 8000 graduate and professional students. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain an internationally recognized and externally funded research program in an existing or emerging field of computing. The candidate must also share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels development of innovative courses and mentoring of students in research outreach and professional development. It is further expected that the candidate will contribute to broadening participation among members of underrepresented groups through their teaching research and/or public engagement; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned Ph.D. in Computer Science Computer Engineering or a related field by the time of appointment.
  • An established record of research in an existing or emerging computing field.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students in both large and small audiences.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity through their academic and research programs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to graduate education and an established record of leadership excellence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • An outstanding record of scholarship and research contributions in at least one of the preferred areas identified above.
  • Expertise in multiple areas of Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience in developing research grant applications to funding agencies.
  • An established record of excellence in teaching.
  • Research expertise complementing that of existing school faculty.
  • Experience in collaboration with the industry.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a fulltime 9month tenuretrack position. The successful candidate is expected to begin work on August 23 2025. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
