Position Summary
The Department of Religion at Bowdoin College seeks applicants for a Mellon postdoctoral teaching fellow in religions of the ancient Mediterranean. This is a oneyear position beginning on July 1 2022. The fellow will be expected to teach three courses over the course of two semesters and participate in the life of the department. Successful candidates must demonstrate expertise in ancient Mediterranean cultures and should be able to teach Introduction to the Study of Religion and other courses on the religions of antiquity such as (but not limited to) New Testament Hebrew Bible JewishChristian relations Roman religion and religion courses that cover thematic issues such as violence gender and ritual. Applicants must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and research and a commitment to the liberal arts which includes a nonconfessional approach to the instruction of religion. If they do not yet have their PhD in hand they must provide documentation from their home institution confirming that they will receive that degree by no later than June 30 2022.
