Position Summary

Within the Center for Equity and Excellence in Teaching and Learning the Teaching and Learning Specialist is responsible for ensuring CEETLs faculty development curriculum is relevant current and effective in improving teaching and learning in support of student success. This position requires experience in qualitative and quantitativebased research in order to provide customer support to senior level management departments and faculty that includes but is not limited to generating reports program development activities routine data maintenance data backups troubleshooting systems training and statistical testing. In communication & collaboration with and in support of a rotating CEETL Faculty Directors and Fellows this position uses rigorous evidencebased methods to assess faculty development offerings across the CEETL curriculum identifying gaps strengths and opportunities; applies inclusive equityminded instructional design strategies to develop robust faculty development offerings that promote highimpact innovative and evidencebased teaching and learning experiences in all teaching modalities; and assesses the impact of the CEETL curriculum student learning and overall success implementing continuous improvement processes in response. Work in collaboration with faculty and academic units to actively pursue and encourage projects that improve classroom experiences for students.

Position Information

Faculty Development:

  • Lead and improve CEETLs current professional development offerings: New Faculty Orientation for Tenure Track Faculty Lecturer Faculty Learning Community University Retreat Teaching Institute and Faculty Awards using familiarity with industry best practices to apply inclusive equityminded and socially just strategies adaptable to all teaching modalities.
  • Develop a robust portfolio of CEETL faculty development programs and resource offerings based on emerging needs and the changing landscape of higher21 education by identifying applying and adapting the latest research methodologies and open source solutions providing direction to team members as needed.
  • Work in collaboration with faculty and academic units to actively pursue and encourage projects that improve classroom experiences for students.

Curriculum Assessment:

  • Act as point of contact to the assessment of CEETLs professional development programs through utilizing current literature and engagement with the teaching and learning communities across the California State University (CSU).
  • Use statistical modeling and data analytics to develop comprehensive reports and authored publications and present the results.
  • Deliver curated content by researching evaluating and applying tested instructional design theories practice and methods.
  • Work with subject matter experts to conduct needs assessment and analysis to identify customized teaching development needs as appropriate for each target audience and critical success factors monitoring gradual maturity and curriculum improvements.

Consultation & Advising:

  • Provide inperson and virtual consultation with individuals departments and colleges on high impact innovative and evidencebased teaching and learning approaches to increase student success especially as they relate to justice equity diversity and inclusion.
  • Respond to all inquires related to teaching and learning such as course design learning assessment inclusive teaching practices student engagement activities etc.
  • Represent CEETL on several campus and CSU committees
  • Pull and organize data on DFW rates to consult with faculty and departments about what can and cannot be inferred from the data to facilitate best practices in teaching course design and professional development within departments

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles practices and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelors degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study analysis and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies procedures practices or programs.

  • Under general direction performance of administrative and/or program leadership in a large and/or complex organizational unit with broad impact. Required to assess formulate and evaluate the impact of recommended or implemented policies from a strategic and operational perspective. Work requires regular participation in planning and development activities and as required independent determination of methods to meet programmatic or administrative goals.
  • Influence over key objectives and longer term goals of an organizational unit and/or program with high visibility or broad impact within and outside the organization.
  • Independent determination of approaches to project and priorities. Work is reviewed against overall goals and objectives with full accountability for results.
  • Use of appreciable judgment in the development of policies and procedures related to issues frequently not covered by existing policies and procedures. Precedents and policies to guide development activities may be available for reference.
  • Use of appreciable ingenuity and innovation to conceive of new approaches and solutions to address complex problems and issues.
  • Serve as the prime contact for the program specialty and/or organizational unit. May manage relationships with outside entities or agencies and manage sensitive information and situations.
  • May oversee daytoday program or organizational unit operations and provide lead work direction to other professional or administrative staff with accountability for results.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply extensive expertise to complex programs and/or administrative specialties including pertinent laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in and advanced knowledge of the principles problems and methods of public and business administration and operational and fiscal management.
  • Expertise in administrative survey techniques operations and systems analysis statistical and research methods and the ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend new or revised policies.
  • Ability to understand problems from a broad interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions.
  • Ability to work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations. Demonstrated consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups.
  • Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate or equivalent experience preferred. Multimodal higher education teaching experience. Experience developing and/or conducting formal faculty and student training and support programs related to content sharing engagement and assessment. Knowledge of and proficiency in standard opensource and proprietary software applications used at SF State including Canvas (Moodle) CourseStream (Echo360 ePortfolios (Portfolium) Drupal Adobe Creative Suite Microsoft Office research databases and other educational productivity and presentation programs. Effective team building and conflict resolution strategies. Minimum 5 years experience teaching in higher education.
  • Excellent interpersonal and public communication skills including advanced listening speaking writing presentation and organizational skills. Work proactively and independently on complex projects and work assignments. Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with faculty and staff within and across disciplines. Minimum 2 years experience providing training and support to faculty and students in higher education environments.

Environmental/Physical/Special

Must be able to work on site 3 days per week. Open office environment and oncampus facilities will be the major venue for this position. May involve carrying or lifting equipment which can also be pushed or pulled using a cart. Work schedule may change at times to ensure delivery of campus services and the work week will be adjusted accordingly. Evening and weekend shifts may be required. May require some offcampus travel. In the interest of projecting a positive image to the constituents we serve all employees must be professionally neatly and appropriately attired for the work to be done.
