Job Description

Position Title:

OnCall Field Supervisor

Position Type:

Temporary

Hiring Range:

$38/hr

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Field Supervisor reports to the Field Experience Coordinator. The position includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities:

Conduct a meeting with the cooperating teacher(s) and teacher candidate at the start of the academic year to

(a) review the expectations policies and procedures for the field experience;

(b) explain SCUs expectations for the cooperating teacher;

(c) discuss the field supervisors role in the process of support evaluation and interaction throughout the year; and

(d) cover all items on the list of discussion topics provided at the field supervisors orientation meeting in August/September

Provide an overview of the program and SCUs expectations (including teacher candidates time commitment at school site reporting absences to cooperating teachers and adhering to the SCU and school district calendar); respond to cooperating teachers questions regarding the teacher candidate handbook

Appropriately represent the SCU teaching credential program in communications with cooperating teachers maintaining ongoing contact throughout the year clarifying/reinforcing programs expectations as needed throughout the year

Assist with and validate teacher candidates completion of tasks on the Clinical Practice Checklist

Support the teacher candidate by reviewing lesson plans answering questions brainstorming solutions to fieldbased challenges etc.

Observe document and evaluate teacher candidates professional practices including lesson planning unit design differentiation classroom management assessment of student learning and other practices detailed on the SCU evaluation documents at least once per month

Provide detailed feedback to teacher candidates regarding their performance throughout the year following both informal and formal observations

Document formal observations as required each quarter for the teacher candidate using the SCU evaluation forms (numerical rating scale and narrative observations) and complete a summative assessment for the teacher candidate at the end of each quarter

Demonstrate for cooperating teachers how to use the current version of SCUs observation and evaluation forms; discuss suggested timelines for completing the forms for each quarter

Periodically checkin with the coopering teacher to review teacher candidates progress outside of scheduled endofquarter benchmark meetings

At the conclusion of each quarter hold a benchmark meeting with the teacher candidate and cooperating teacher to review summative assessments and assist in determining teacher candidates readiness to advance to or continue in student teaching completing the appropriate documentation

Communicate regularly with Coordinators of Field Placement and Director of Teacher Education regarding any evidence of teacher candidates poor performance and/or concerns about the suitability of the classroom placement or cooperating teacher

Assist in the preparation and completion of a Field Experience Performance Plan when necessary

Treat cooperating teachers and credential candidates with professional respect

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services.

Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices.

Maintains contact with customers and solicits feedback for improved services.

Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives.

Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow.

Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions.

Prepares and submits reports as requested and required.

Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The items below are representative of the knowledge skills abilities education and experience required or position requires the ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.

All field supervisors must have: a) current knowledge of the content; b) knowledge of the current context of public schooling including the California adopted P12 content standards frameworks and accountability systems; c) knowledge of diversity in society including diverse abilities culture language ethnicity and gender orientation; and d) demonstration of effective professional practices in teaching and learning scholarship and service.

2. Skills

All field supervisors working with Santa Clara University (SCU) teacher candidates must have significant experience as a teacher or administrator in a K12 school setting including experience observing and evaluating teaching performance.
