Other Conditions: To begin approximately spring 2025 subject to position clearance and/or availability of funds.
In collaboration with the Hawaiian Knowledge Organization Librarian this position will establish and update controlled vocabularies to reflect culturally appropriate and communitycentered representation of Native Hawaiians and Hawaiian knowledge materials.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. In collaboration with the Hawaiian Knowledge Organization Librarian develop domains term lists authority records and related metadata creation and maintenance for the Hawaiian Knowledge Organization System (HKOS).
2. Lead and coordinate the HKOS Working Groups including facilitating correspondence and meetings. Working groups will be composed of Hawaiian knowledge and metadata experts as a means to gather community insight and feedback about the Hawaiian Knowledge Organization System.
3. Oversee term cocreation and domain development process to include writing instructions for terms and application and applying controlled vocabularies.
4. Maintain accurate records and documentation of Hawaii controlled vocabularies.
5. Assist in planning and coordination of Knowledge Organization Summits.
6. Assist in the design and support of the maintenance of software(s) for the HKOS.
7. Evaluate the description of Hawaiian materials and support improvements to bibliographic records and intellectual access.
8. Meets requirements for tenure and promotion including professional development research and service.
Minimum Qualifications:
Librarian II
1. ALAaccredited MLS or equivalent
2. Ability and desire to interact with students faculty and community using excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills.
3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment with multicultural groups and individuals with diverse academic abilities and cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds including library staff administrators students faculty and community.
4. Strong commitment to service excellence.
5. Familiarity with library search strategies and user needs to create a holistic user experience of the library.
6. Demonstrated ability to take initiative on projects and quickly learn new tools/skills.
7. Demonstrated knowledge of Native Hawaiian language history politics practices and contemporary issues.
8. Familiarity with the use of controlled vocabularies.
9. Attention to detail and ability to interpret and apply standards.
Librarian III
1. Minimum qualifications for Librarian II
2. Three years of appropriate professional experience
3. 24 postbaccalaureate credits
Desirable Qualifications
1. Demonstrated experience with cataloging or creating metadata particularly around subject analysis
2. Familiarity with issues and best practices with reparative description Indigenous knowledge organization and/or data sovereignty
3. Demonstrated fluency in Olelo Hawaii
4. Experience using MARCbased tools such as Alma and OCLC Connexion
5. Familiarity with software development
6. Experience in instruction and instructional writing
