Job Description:
General Summary:
Design of controls systems including hardware design PLC communication networks power distribution and selection of field devices for a variety of manufacturing processes. This would be electric battery electric vehicle and industrial manufacturing industries (process engineering). Applications would include dry material transport liquid mixing and delivery level control pressure & temperature control etc. and equipment set projects which includes electrical installation of various machines for manufacturing.
Essential Job Functions:
- Participatein overall engineering of system designs system flow schematics general layouts and detailed sequence of operations.
- Understandand be familiar with National Electric Code and Local Electrical and Safety Codes and Standards.
- Coordinate with project teams and clients as directed to prepare projectspecifications and scopes of work for controls design and system installation.
- Specifyand design power distribution to and within production and processequipment. Perform calculations anddesigns relative to demand and diversity factors bus loading voltage drops circuitprotection and coordination feed sizing distribution equipment sizing etc.
- Specifyand design control panels motor control centers and motor control panels. This includes selection of control panel components including circuit breakers power supplies motor starters VFDs relays etc.
- Specify field devices for controls systems. This includes the selection of the devices and the interface of them in the overall system design.
- Design installation drawings including cable tray and conduit layouts field interconnect diagrams and bill of materials.
- Schematic design of PLC network systems for communication and control. This would also include PLC to PLC as well as PLC to I/O and PLC to device communications.
- Review and approve fabrication of controls systems including control panels MCCs and production equipment prior to shipmentto site. This includes visiting fabricators of equipment being provided. This will include traveling to the vendors.
- Participate in the system commissioning including initial system checks inspection of wiring powering up of the equipment startup debug balancing and testing and finally provide punchlisting of the installation. This will include traveling to the project jobsites.
Employment Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
- Prefer Bachelor Degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university
- Prefer 3 to 5 years of related work experience.
Skills/Competencies:
- Proficient in 3D CAD/modeling MS Office
- Revit proficiency preferred
- Proficient in controls hardware design and engineering.
- Previous experience with PLCs (e.g. Allen Bradley ControlLogix family Siemens S series) networks (Profibus Ethernet DeviceNet etc.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
