Salary Range:$48172.00$62909.00 Yearly. Individuals new to state service start at the minimum of the pay plan. Please note the salary range is increasing on June 28 2024 to $49377.00$64482.00.

This position will receive onthejob training and vocational education in order to complete the requirements of a QCW Roofing job classification within a period of time normally not to exceed two years.

This Skilled Trades Apprentice Roofing position is a permanent fulltime 37.5 hours/week position. The work schedule is Monday Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The hourly salary is $24.61 and is nonnegotiable. Please note that the hourly rate is increasing to $25.23 on June 28 2024.

PLEASE NOTE: ONTHEJOB TRAINING RECEIVED AT THE SKILLED TRADES APPRENTICE ROOFING LEVEL WILL BE PRIMARILY ON 1ST SHIFT DURING THE ESTABLISHED WORK HOURS BUT SOME TRAINING MAY BE REQUIRED TO BE COMPLETED ON OVERTIME DURING EVENING HOURS OR ON WEEKENDS. ONCE THE SUPERVISOR AND MANAGER DETERMINE THAT THE TRAINING REQUIREMENTS HAVE BEEN MET FOR THE SKILLED TRADES APPRENTICE ROOFING POSITION AND IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE APPRENTICE POSSESSES THE ABILITY TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY AT THE TARGET LEVEL OF THE POSITION THE APPRENTICE WOULD THEN BE PROMOTED TO THE TARGET LEVEL OF QCW ROOFING. APPRENTICES ARE EVALUATED AT THREE MONTHS SIX MONTHS AND ANNUALLY. AN APPRENTICE MUST COMPLETE AT LEAST ONE YEAR OF EMPLOYMENT IN ORDER TO BECOME ELIGIBLE TO BE PROMOTED TO THE TARGET LEVEL OF QCW; MOST APPRENTICES ARE PROMOTED TO THE TARGET LEVEL WITHIN A PERIOD NORMALLY NOT TO EXCEED TWO YEARS.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Receives training to perform tasks as outlined in the specification for the Skilled Trades Apprentice target class; receives onthejob training to supplement prior vocational or technical training in respective trade area; performs increasingly difficult and skilled tasks requiring application of trade skills codes and standard trade practices under supervision; assists in estimating time personnel and material needs on assigned projects; assists in maintenance of necessary records logs etc.; performs duties related to trade or similar trade areas as required; at state owned airports may be required to stand by for and respond to fire and/or crash emergency situations; may be required to assist in snow removal operations during emergency situations; performs related duties as required.
At UConn the Skilled Trades Apprentice Roofing will receive training in all aspects of the roofing trade. Please note that some training may be required on other shifts weekends or on overtime. This position will receive training from QCW Roofing and QCW Carpentry employees. The candidate hired for this position will work alongside QCW Roofing and QCW Carpentry employees to learn how to perform highly skilled tasks in accordance with national and local codes and standard trade practices. The Skilled Trades Apprentice Roofing employee will be provided with hands on and educational opportunities in the following examples of roofing tasks: performs alterations repairs and maintenance of structures and facilities primarily maintenance and repair of builtup roofing systems rolled roofing asphalt shingles metal roofs rubber roofs thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) roofs metal roofs slate roofs and singleply roofing systems; performs inspections of roofing systems for damage wear and preventative maintenance; determines appropriate methods and materials for repairs; operates lift equipment for repair and maintenance functions; performs cleaning of roofs and gutters; installs and maintains snow guard systems on multiple rooftops on campus. This position requires the ability to climb high extension ladders work out of high lift buckets work close to roof edges with the use of a harness and lift/carry heavy materials. The Skilled Trades Apprentice Roofing will gain knowledge and the ability to apply standard tools materials methods and practices of the roofing trade.
KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY
Knowledge of standard tools materials methods and practices of particular trade area; some interpersonal skills; some oral and written communication skills; ability to perform on a skilled level in particular trade; ability to make estimates and keep shop records; ability to follow written and oral instructions; some ability to utilize computer software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma designating completion of the subject requirements in the respective maintenance trade area.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
Possession of 4000 registered onthejob training (OJT) apprenticeship program hours recognized by the Department of Labors Office of Apprenticeship along with related instruction hours in the respective maintenance trade area may be substituted for the General Experience for licensed trades (Electrical Plumbing HVACR) only.
PROMOTION
NonLicensed Trades:
A Skilled Trades Apprentice who successfully completes the Internship Training Program shall be promoted to the target class for nonlicensed trades no sooner than completing six 6 months of satisfactory work performance.
