Washington State University (WSU) is seeking an experienced and dedicated professional to serve as the Assistant Chief of Police for its campus police department at the Pullman campus. This is a dynamic leadership position for an individual passionate about campus safety law enforcement and fostering community engagement. As the Assistant Chief of Police you will play a key role in managing and directing the operations of the department while supporting the Chief of Police and contributing to the safety and wellbeing of the WSU community.

The Opportunity:

As the secondincommand you will oversee campus police resources policy development personnel management and training. You will also assist in the preparation of the departments budget and strategic goals represent the department in external professional organizations and ensure the implementation and adherence to policies and procedures. Additionally you will handle special projects internal investigations and compliance with safety regulations including the Clery Act and accreditation processes.

As the Assistant Chief you will be tasked with overseeing all sworn personnel and can have a significant impact on your subordinates and peers as well as the WSU Pullman Community. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that WSU Pullman is a safe and secure environment for all so you should have the following characteristics to be successful.

  • Hold yourself and peers to a high ethical standard and be capable of enforcing policies procedures and laws accordingly.

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective communication with a diverse population.

  • Have the ability to think critically often quickly and with limited information to make difficult and impactful decisions.

  • Have a high level of attention to detail.

Additional Information:

This is a full time 100 FTE) permanent position. This position is overtime exempt.

Monthly Salary: $8342 $12500 Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position.
