JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Education Resource Coordinator FLSA Status: NonExempt

Dept/Division: Wraparound Family Services Location: Parent Information Network

Supervised By: Program Director or designee

General Statement of Duties: Provide information support and services for parents/care givers of the Parent Information Network (PIN) to understand the entitlements and options of the special education process.


Responsibilities:

1. Provide educational consultation and support for PIN parents/ care givers and staff regarding special education services

2. Empower parents with information and support to become informed advocates for their own families

3. Train and educate parents and staff regarding State and Federal regulations for special education laws

4. Develop and facilitate trainings on educational topics for parents staff and professionals

5. Meet with PIN staff and parents to review records and make recommendations as needed

6. Attend school meetings as assigned

7. Collaborate with PTAY Coordinator in developing educational trainings for parents with transitional age youth

8. Collaborate with Department of Mental Health (DMH) associated vendors Mass Rehab schools and vocational agencies regarding school related issues

9. Develop a recourse guide and a directory of liaisons advocates lawyers to be utilized by parents and staff

10. Consult with PINs Educational Consultant as needed

11. Contribute to the PIN E Newsletter as assigned

12. Punctual in reporting to work as scheduled and conscientious regarding use of benefit time (i.e. considers impact on services gives proper notice).

13. Complete activity sheets and other documentation as required and submit reports in a clear concise and timely manner.

14. Execute duties to reflect reasonable safety standards. Standard/universal precautions must be utilized and training obtained in areas that constitute risk.

15. Perform other related work duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor.


Qualifications:

Must be experienced in supporting families in an educational setting

Must have experience in working with state agencies schools and associated vendors advocating for the needs of families with children with mental health challenges

Must have understanding of the impact of mental health on learning

Must be experience in developing a curriculum for trainings and work shops

Preference given to candidates who have received trainings by either the Federation of Special Needs or Wrights Law

Possess a comprehensive knowledge of state and federal education laws

Computer skills including at least intermediate level skills in Word Excel Power Point (create posters slide shows brochures and presentations) and Outlook (email and internet)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills required

Ability to maintain accurate records prepare reports and meet deadlines.

Highly organized with effective time management skills dependable selfmotivated creative and innovative individual with the ability to work in a fast paced loosely structured environment.

Preference given to parents of children who have raised or raising children with behavioral emotional or mental health challenges

Must have high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three years experience in the human service field Associates Degree or higher preferred.
