Title:Associate/Professor (Director of Wellbeing Education)

Other conditions: To begin approximately March 2025 subject to position clearance. Nontenure track; 11month appointment period; annually renewable depending on performance and/or funding availability

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and implement a comprehensive medical student curriculum that addresses multiple elements of wellbeing mental physical emotional spiritual familial cultural social intellectual financial professional
  • Provide professional development (i.e. instruction) to learning community mentors and other faculty members so they can support medical student wellbeing and the curriculum
  • Work with the JABSOM Office of Student Affairs Director of Organizational Resiliency Ombudsman human resources faculty affairs and others to foster the development and sustainability of a psychologically safe and culturally humble learning environment and a workplace culture that embraces excellence a growth mindset diversity of ideas and thoughts and innovation and that values community coaching collegiality individual and peer support.
  • Collaborate with the Office of the Designated Institutional Official and wellness representatives from the major healthcare systems to share best practices to promote clinician wellbeing and reduce burnout
  • Serve as a JABSOM Wellbeing Enhancement and Resiliency Committee (WERC) subcommittee cochair on medical student curriculum
  • Engage in research and scholarly activity related to medical student wellbeing
  • Other duties as assigned (including but not limited to participating in community engagement activities directing office initiatives etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate Professor

  • M.D./D.O. degree from an accredited medical school or another doctoral degree in a related profession (i.e. education)
  • A minimum of four 4 years in the rank of Assistant Professor or four 4 years of other medical experience or a total of four 4 years of teaching in the rank of Assistant Professor and other medical experience or one 1 year at the rank of Associate Professor at another accredited medical school
  • Evidence of effective teaching. This includes evidence of facilitating studentcentered learning and demonstration of a positive attitude to student growth.
  • Experience with teaching methods that emphasize active selfdirected learning by learners
  • Ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues
  • Evidence of effective curriculum implementation and/or program administration
  • Evidence of research/scholarship in medical education or related areas
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills

Professor:

In addition to those of Associate Professor minimum qualifications include:

  • A minimum of four 4 years in the rank of Associate Professor or ten 10 years of other medical experience or one 1 year at the rank of Professor at another accredited medical school
  • Ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues
  • Evidence of research/scholarship in medical education or related areas

Desirable Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in medical education academic medicine or a similar field
  • Demonstrated ability to work and teach collaboratively with other faculty within and across disciplines
  • Comfortable working in a multicultural setting
  • Demonstrated scholarship in medical education competencybased medical education or faculty development
  • Demonstrated curricular or program effectiveness
  • Evidence of extramural funding in medical education or related areas
