Job Description
SUMMARY:
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is seeking an energetic individual dedicated to excellence in undergraduate chemistry education to join us as a fulltime Assistant Teaching Professor in September 2025.
The positionis a twoyear tenmonthnontenure trackappointment with eligibility for reappointment based on established NTTP is committed to the success of Teaching Faculty through opportunities for promotion and professional development to support longterm success and flourishing at the University.
Primary responsibilities in this position will be teaching 100level chemistry courses including General Chemistry and other fundamental courses offered as preparation for General Chemistry or for programs in Nutrition Food Science Exercise Science and Nursing. There may be additional opportunities to teach a course in the candidates area of specialty and to contribute to new course development. Our innovative General Chemistry teaching group is known as a model on campus for maintaining excellence across large multisection courses. We are looking for someone to join this team with enthusiasm and ultimately become involved in aiding the coordination of the lectures and laboratories and assisting with analysis of data related to student surveys and student outcomes. The position also requires departmental service student advising and professional development.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching chemistry to multifaceted populations at the university level and experience with a variety of teaching technologies. This position requires a strong commitment to the success of a wide range of backgrounds experiences and perspectives including historically underserved populations firstgeneration and nontraditional students.
THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY:
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Montclair State University offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in chemistry and related fields. Undergraduate students can pursue degree options including an American Chemical Societycertified BS in Chemistry a BS in Biochemistry a BS in Chemistry with teacher certification a BS in Chemistry with business concentration and a BS/PharmD articulation program with Rutgers University. Graduate students can pursue an MS in Chemistry an MS in Chemistry with a Biochemistry Concentration or an MS in Pharmaceutical Biochemistry.
The department emphasizes handson learning and research providing students with opportunities to apply and go beyond their classroom knowledge in cuttingedge projects throughout the academic year and summer. The department maintains a smallschool community feel among our majors while educating a large diverse student body. Our faculty work together to create a supportive and inclusive environment that yields personal growth and highquality educational opportunities for our students many of whom are firstgeneration college students and / or from groups traditionally underrepresented in chemistry and other STEM fields. Recent graduates from the department have a track record of success enrolling in prestigious PhD programs in chemistry medical school dental school pharmacy school and finding employment with a variety of companies. The department is committed to the success of teaching faculty by providing faculty peer support collaboration and opportunities for professional development to support their longterm success at the university.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A PhD in chemistry or biochemistry is required. A willingness to provide service to the school university and larger professional community is expected. Preference will be given to candidates with an understanding of the undergraduate chemistry and biochemistry curriculum along with a record of demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching at the 100level.
SALARY RANGE Commensurate with experience
