Job Description:
The Department of English at the University of Florida invites applications for a fulltime ninemonth tenuretrack Assistant Professor position to teach in the B.A. and Ph.D. programs in the field of Latinx literary and cultural studies beginning August 16 2025. UF is a major comprehensive landgrant research university. The normal teaching assignment is two courses per semester.
We welcome applications from all candidates with records of publication and teaching in the field. We are interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community. The successful candidate must be able to work with students faculty and staff from a range of social and cultural backgrounds.
Areas of Specialization
We especially welcome applications from candidates whose study of literatures cultures and rhetorics is intersectional and interdisciplinary with areas of specialization that includebut are not limited toAfroLatinidad Critical Latinx Indigeneities Latinidad/Chicanidad and Digital Humanities and Latinidad/Chicanidad and Environmental Humanities. Within these areas we are particularly interested in work that attends to questions of race gender and sexuality feminism class labor theory politics migration (de)coloniality settler colonialism border theory and performance.
Interdisciplinary and Crossdisciplinary Opportunities
The Assistant Professor will have the option to affiliate with one or more of UFs interdisciplinary units. These include the Center for Latin American Studies (established in 1930; the Department of Gender Sexuality and Womens Studies; the African American Studies Program; and the Center for Arts Migration and Entrepreneurship. In addition the Center for Humanities and the Public Sphere offers awards funding opportunities and other forms of professional development and enrichment.
Student Organizations
UF has a student body of almost 70000 undergraduate and graduate students including over 14000 students 20 who identify as Hispanic/Latinx. The person who fills this position will have opportunities to connect with student organizations such as the Hispanic Student Association which is comprised of 20 affiliate organizations including the MexicanAmerican Student Association (MASA) la Unin de Estudiantes Puertorriqueos Activos (UEPA) and the Cuban American Student Association (CASA!. In addition the Institute of HispanicLatino Cultures (La Casita established in 1994 and the Institute of Black Culture (established in 1971 provide space resources and programming for UF students and faculty.

In addition the State University System of Florida hosts other resources for Latinx scholars. These include the Institute for the Study of Latin America and the Caribbean at the University of South Florida the Puerto Rico Research Hub at the University of Central Florida the Study of the Americas Initiative at Florida Atlantic University and the Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center at Florida International University. Private institutions in the state also offer resources including the Program in Cuban Studies at the University of Miami and the Center for Jos Mart Studies Affiliate at the University of Tampa.

Gainesville Florida is a city of approximately 150000 residents in Alachua County (NorthCentral Florida). It sits 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico 67 miles from the Atlantic Ocean and within a 2hour drive to the major cities of Orlando Tampa and Jacksonville. Its many nearby parks springs and recreational areas offer yearround outdoor activities such as hiking biking diving and nature photography.
