SDCI administers City ordinances regulating building construction the use of land and housing. SDCI reviews land use and constructionrelated permits annually approving more than 55000 permits and performing approximately 240000 onsite and 10000 virtual inspections. SDCIs work includes permit review and community involvement with Master Use Permits (MUPs); shoreline permits and design review; review and approval of permits for construction mechanical systems site development elevators electrical installation boilers furnaces refrigeration signs and billboards; field inspections for all construction and traderelated permits; annual maintenance inspections of boilers elevators and refrigeration equipment; and home seismic retrofits.
Accountable to the mayor thiscabinetlevel position leads a staff of over 460 employees and has administrative oversight of an annual operating budgetof$122million.
TheDirector of the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI)leadsthe departments employees in advancing the citys regulatory and compliance functions for building and land use.

EnhancingCustomer ServiceandAccessibilitySet clear customer service standards and response time benchmarks ensuring they are consistently met. Expand virtual support explore inperson service counters and implement feedback tools to improve the permitting experience.
Fosteringa CustomerFocusedandInnovative WorkforcePromote a culture of problemsolving and innovation by investing in staff training empowering employees to enhance service delivery and ensuring consistency in permitting and inspections.

The DirectorSeattle Department ofConstruction and Inspection Services is appointed by theMayor confirmed bya majority ofthe City Council and is subject to reappointment and reconfirmation every four years.
Salary:The salary range for this position is currently $187753 $309692$89.92/hour $148.36/hour) and isdeterminedby City ordinance. The salary range for this role has been identified as $250000 $309692annually $119.73/hour $148.36/hour). This fulltime positionisclassified as an Executive 4is authorized for relocationassistanceand is not covered by the Civil Service System.
Due to the fiduciary nature of the work job offers are contingent on the verification of credentials and other information required by the employment process including the completion of a detailed background check. The background check will involve an extensive criminal history check which includes conviction and arrest records and a driving history review in compliance with Seattles Fair Chance Employment OrdinanceSMC 14.17.
