Job Description
DESCRIPTION:
Nontenure Track Teaching Professor of Fashion Design.
The Department of Art and Design invites applications for a new 10month teaching faculty position to join the dynamic Fashion Design and Merchandising BA Program. The program includes 275 majors four fulltime faculty and industryexperienced adjuncts who deliver this vibrant program which is actively committed to transformative teaching and learning. The faculty member will teach three courses per semester manage the apparel teaching studio and fashion resource space and produce the annual Spring fashion show. Courses include Introduction and Intermediate Apparel Construction Flat Pattern Fashion Illustration (analog and digital) and Fashion Show Production. This faculty role includes student mentoring and managing public exhibitions of student creative coursework in the department gallery. This faculty member will deliver service to the program department college and university.
Position is a twoyear tenmonthnontenure trackappointment with eligibility for reappointment based on established NTTP procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum qualifications: a terminal degree (e.g. MFA or PhD) in fashion design or a closely related field (i.e. costume design; two years of higher education teaching experience in the apparel field; two years of industry experience; competence in Adobe Photoshop Illustrator and a video editing program; competencies at all levels of apparel construction flat pattern and fashion illustration. Demonstrated experience in fashion show production apparel studio management and successful studio community building. Preferred: digital editing experience; familiarity with exhibition processes; and an undergraduate degree that is in alignment with graduate studies (e.g. BA BS or BFA in fashion/apparel design or a closely related field).
THE DEPARTMENT OF ART AND DESIGN:
The Department of Art & Design (ARDS) at BBB University offers four undergraduate degrees: a BA in Fashion Design and Merchandising a BA in Visual Art with an optional concentration in Art Education a BFA in Illustration and a BFA in Visual Communication Design. The department supports its talented student body of over 1000 majors with a range of specialized studios and facilities including seven computer labs and analog studios for small fabrication ceramics 3D design drawing painting printmaking photography and apparel creation. The departments Creative Print Center enables students to work on course projects across various surfaces while the Finley Gallery showcases student work throughout the academic year.
Our programs emphasize teaching and learning that fosters critical thinking problemsolving skill development and an understanding of disciplinary history and cultural contexts. We also prioritize experiential learning opportunities including internships to prepare students for their careers. The departments fulltime faculty of 17 consists of scholars practicing designers and visual artists who are dedicated to making a positive impact on students lives and the broader community.
