Job Description

The Senior Staff Accountant is a key member of the General Accounting & Financial Reporting team at Boston University. This position has the potential to work a hybrid schedule under the Universitys remote work guidelines.

Major duties of this position include:

  • Responsible for the accounting related to property plant & equipment capital projects leases and debt and interest related activities.
  • Prepare key general ledger account reconciliations and monitor several balance sheet areas.
  • Prepare initial drafts of the Universitys monthly financial statements and related schedules including the review and investigation of unusual fluctuations.
  • Works closely with other members of the General Accounting staff Budget Research Accounting and many other areas around the University.
  • Prepare monthly and yearend journal entries.
  • Participate in the annual external audits including preparing schedules and pulling support related to audit selections.
  • Special projects as assigned including but not limited to performing outreach for unusual transactions developing process improvements utilizing new applications for data analysis such as Power BI or preparing adhoc reports and reconciliations that support the department overall.

Pay Range

Salary grade: 48

Minimum $61200 Midpoint $82700 Maximum $104100

Salary offers are based on related experience expertise and internal equity; generally new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.

Required Skills

  • Bachelors degree in a related field.
  • 35 years of accounting experience.
  • Advanced skills utilizing Excel including complex formulas in order to acquire organize and analyze data.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices with the ability to communicate topics and theories to internal nonaccountant partners.
  • Experienced in analyzing data to determine relevant conclusions and suggest appropriate actions to management.
  • Proven track record to multitask and prioritize routine tasks and adhoc requests.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented demonstrating accuracy and quality of work output.
  • Ability to work optimally and collaboratively in a small collegial team environment.
  • Selfmotivated proactive intellectually curious.

Preferred but not required skills:

  • CPA or CPA candidate
  • Experience with ERP desirable SAP
