GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position creates and implements interpretation for North Platte River District (NPRD) sites which includes the research design and of programs activities special events and outreach programs. These duties achieve the departments goals by providing enjoyable and interpretive experiences for visitors while also preserving our cultural and natural resources so the unit can be sustained at the highest possible level. The North Platte River District consists of the following staffed sites with associated unmanned sites in parentheses: Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park (Independence Rock State Historic Site) Wyoming Pioneer Memorial Museum (Fort Fetterman and Camp Douglas POW Officers Club State Historic Sites) Glendo State Park Guernsey State Park (Oregon Trail Ruts and Register Cliff State Historic Sites Hawk Springs State Recreation Area). There is no housing for this position.



  • Create and implement novel and impactful interpretive programs activities special events and outreach programs for all demographics of visitors.
  • Assist with social media channels for district sites including but not limited to Facebook Instagram and YouTube.
  • Obtain NAI Certified Interpretive Guide status implementing techniques from the training. Work with people of all backgrounds and walks of life including children family groups adult audiences and historically underrepresented groups.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing; establish and maintain working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Network with other Parks NGOs Schools and Government Agencies to collaborate on interpretation outreach and special events.
  • Connect with patrons by introducing them to the specific site and the others who make up the unit answering all questions and listening to feedback.
  • Coordinate and/or assist with special events and submit required paperwork. Organize staff and volunteers to help run the events.
  • Promote events via the website social media platforms newspapers and radio.
  • Assist with interviewing prospective seasonal interpreter applicants and making hiring recommendations.
  • Provide direction and mentorship to seasonal staff.
  • Provide interpretiverelated training to district staff and volunteers.
  • Research different avenues of funding and apply for grants when appropriate.
  • Assist in the design and distribution of brochures and signage.

Qualifications



  • Knowledge of best practices for interpretive or educational programming.

  • Knowledge in digital media: creating graphics engaging with visitors and posting on social media.

  • Knowledge of state personnel rules and regulations.

  • Knowledge of Federal state and agency procedures on a variety of issues.

  • Knowledge of how to operate and use cleaning and grounds maintenance supplies.

  • Ability to fiscally manage site budget.

  • Ability to supervise unit personnel andpositively interact with public and agency staff.

Education:
Bachelors Degree
Experience:
02 years of progressive work experience
OR
Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
35 years of progressive work experience

None
