Job Description

The University of Nevada Las Vegas invites applications for Director for Student Union UNLV Student Life R0146758

ROLE of the POSITION

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Life the Director position exists to provide the vision direction daily management and oversight to the Student Union & Event Services (SUES) department. The department provides centralized scheduling and conference services for all SUESmanaged facilities green space all classrooms not used for academic classes as well as partners with the Foundation Building Student Recreation and Wellness Center and the Barrick Museum.

In conjunction with the Student Union & Event Services staff the Director provides strong leadership for financial operations including securing and growing external clients and sales marketing accounts payable accounts receivable event scheduling and registration event planning legal and contracting components and event management software. The Director is also responsible for the of event operations and logistics capital project planning and custodial operations and safety standards for the Student Union and the associated green space as well as development of policies and procedures for the Student Union & Event Services department requiring strong administrative and organizational skills.

This position is responsible for the direct and/or cosupervision of 3 Associate/Assistant Directors 1 Budget Coordinator 1 Administrative and Business Coordinator and the indirect supervision of 30 full time and 75 student staff members. The Directors responsibilities include the oversight of hiring training professional development and evaluation of all staff levels.

Additional responsibilities include ability to work nights and weekends oncall 24/7 duty for emergency situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires:

  • A bachelors degreefrom an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
  • Minimum 10 years postbachelors fulltime experience to include five years supervision experience of professional and/or classified staff in a multilevel organization
  • University Conference program/operation experience
  • Student Union operations experience
  • Facilities management experience
  • Experience with budgeting and financial decision making
  • Facility scheduling and/or event planning and management experience

Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A masters degree from a regionally accredited university or college as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
  • Minimum 7 years postmasters fulltime experience to include five years supervision experience of professional and/or classified staff in a multilevel organization
  • Successful candidates will understand fiscal management and student development theory.
  • Demonstrated experience in all aspects of personnel management staff development and conflict resolution.
  • Three years directorlevel experience
  • Outcomes assessment and analysis experience
  • Strategic Planning and Reporting experience
