The Revenue Administration Division of the Comptroller of Marylands Office is the place to be. We are looking for a strategic thinking individual to join our team. The main purpose of this position is to coordinate the annual form committees and to review yearly updates to various tax forms and documents that the agency manages. This involves the organization direction and coordination of existing resources with the goal of ensuring the veracity of forms to be delivered to multiple internal/external stakeholders or partners. This position also requires the promulgation of policies rules regulations methods and procedures for the purpose of implementing and promoting compliance with the tax laws concerning tax forms website content power of attorney hearings and appeals and Maryland Tax Court.Public contacts required are varied and usually at high levels.The appointee must:

  • Exercise independent judgment in the interpretation and application of laws rules regulations policies and procedures regarding various phases of the administrative process.
  • Provide advice and guidance to division personnel other tax professionals and the general public.
  • Act in the capacity of the assistant section manager in their absence.

This is a hybrid in office/teleworking position. Teleworking is based on the office needs and after probation period is successfully completed.

Please Note: Overtime may be required for weekends/evenings as inventory requires. Additionally Holidays during peak processing may be required as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of professional work experience in auditing accounting tax law general management or customer service. Two years of this professional work experience must have involved supervising professional revenue administrators accountants or auditors or providing legal advice requiring the interpretation of tax laws in the capacity of a tax attorney or having been in a responsible administrative or management capacity.

Notes:

  1. Candidates may substitute the possession of an associates degree for two years of the required experience in auditing accounting tax law general management or customer service.
  2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university for four years of auditing accounting general management and customer service experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute 30 college credits from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience up to three years of experience in auditing accounting tax law general management or customer service.
  4. Candidates may substitute graduate education in an academic field related to the required experience from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  5. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License for the required experience.
  6. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a noncommissioned officer in accounting and budget classification or accounting and budget specialty codes in the tax examining field of work on a yearforyear basis for the required experience.
** For education obtained outside of the U.S. you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States please submit a detailed coursebycourse evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalence evaluating members identified at OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge and/or experience of Federal/MarylandTax law and income tax forms.
  • Experience performing tasks using softwareprograms such as those in Microsoft Officeincluding but not limited to Adobe Pro tools.
  • Supervisory experience and good customer service skills.
  • Experience with highvolume processing andperforming detail oriented tasksrequiring a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as amember of a team and willing to travel.

  2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a drivers license valid in the State of Maryland.
