Job Description Summary
The Medical University of South Carolina Department Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is hiring for a position to work oneonone with physicians from the top upper extremity surgery team in the state of South Carolina to provide quality care to our patients. This is a fastpaced fun practice that focuses on complex tertiary level care from the shoulder to the fingertip including arthroscopic and open procedures. The ATC as the option to work in the OR as well as in clinic and a local anesthesia minor procedure room. The ATC will operate as the physician extender for the physicians clinical practice. The ATC will be responsible for travelling to different MUSC ambulatory clinics to support the hand and upper extremity surgeons. Additionally the ATC provides limited administrative support to the attending physicians as deemed appropriate. All practice is performed under the supervision of a licensed MUSC attending physician.Entity

Job Description
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Provide general patient care in a clinical setting:
triage patients and prepare for M.D. exams and procedures; assist with exams procedures and treatments as necessary; instruct patients in collection of samples and tests; administer prescribed medications treatments and tests as ordered by M.D.; observe record and report patient physical and psychosocial condition reaction to medications and treatments to M.D.; respond to and triage incoming calls; instruct patient as ordered by M.D regarding treatment and/or medication. Call in orders appropriately as ordered by M.D.
2. Coordinate patient care: Maintain timely flow of patients schedule appointments and referrals
based on urgency and availability; screen patients for appropriate information and provide
patient education as appropriate for diagnosis and treatment; maintain and review patient
records charts and other pertinent information communicating information as appropriate;
posttest exams results; review operative information with patient; educate patients in therapy
treatment plans; assist with cast/brace and preoperative and equipment when needed; be available to assist on days when requested (i.e. graft prep patient flow etc.; assists surgery scheduling and interface with central scheduling.
3. Maintain inventory and equipment: maintain exam room supplies instruments and cleanliness
as required by OSHA and UMA; ensure accurate calibrations cleaning and scheduled
maintenance of clinical/lab equipment as required by OSHA CLIA and UMA; track by
documentation.
4. Perform Clerical and administrative duties as necessary: Complete office forms for patients (i.e.
disability forms FMLA forms). Attend inservices and meetings participates in committees as
requested. Assist MDs in scheduling appointments depositions etc.
Minimum Training and Education:
1. Successful completion of the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (BOC) examination;
2. Current active certification as an Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers Association;
3. Current active licensure by the Department of Health and Environmental Control to practice as an Athletic Trainer in the state of South Carolina or gain SC licensure within 6 months upon selection for position;
4. Participation in continuing education 50 CEUs every 2 years).

Preferred Qualifications:
To best assist the Physical Medicine physician(s) in clinical practice the Athletic Trainer should have the following qualifications:
Masters Degree in Athletic Training or other appropriate field;
Possess previous Sports Medicine Orthopaedic experience;
Have experience with clinical Orthopaedic operations.
Degree of Supervision: Supervised by the Chair and supported attending physician.

Graduate of an accredited college with a BS/BA. (Masters degree in Athletic Training preferred). Certification by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC). Certified as an Athletic Trainer in South Carolina by DHEC. Must be able to adjust communication both verbal and nonverbal to interact appropriately and effectively with a wide variety of age groups including school age adolescents adults and geriatrics.
