GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for the implementation and/or support of public health programs such as adult health/chronic disease management communicable disease immunizations environmental health community health assessment planning Public Health Prevention and Public Health Emergency Preparedness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.- Performs nursing assessment diagnosis treatment & evaluation according to the ANAs Public Health Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice.
- Arranges for and conducts nursing clinics and classes; teaching individuals and groups about health promotion and disease prevention.
- Determines priorities and responsibilities based on public health core functions and essential services.
- Administers adult and child vaccines per program protocols and best practices.
- Performs majority of walkin clinics applying the nursing process guidelines and orders and appropriate documentation.
- Works with nurse manager prevention services and public health response coordinator in relation to emergency preparedness activities.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preference will be given to a BSN with work experience in public health nursing.
Preference given for experience in working with immunizations.
Preference is given for experience in communicable disease prevention and case management.
**Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming.
**Drivers license required.KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of laws principles practices and techniques of professional nursing.
- Knowledge of electronic medical record systems.
- Knowledge of maintaining medical records charts reports and observations.
- Knowledge of principles of nursing process and scientific process.
- Knowledge of applying medical diagnosis and treatment to patient care.
- Knowledge of scientific concepts as a basis for decisionmaking.
- Knowledge of physical biological and behavioral sciences.
- Knowledge of evaluation services and programs according to standards.
- Knowledge of work management and leadership theory and practice.
- Knowledge of federal state and local laws pertaining to healthcare.
- Knowledge of public health core functions and essential services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Associates Degree (typically in Nursing)Experience:02 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN
Certificates Licenses Registrations:Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

Education & Experience Substitution:
35 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPNCertificates Licenses Registrations:Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WyomingNecessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to:
- Lift medical equipment of varying sizes and weights up to about 50 lbs.
- Travel throughout the state and to national conferences if requested.
- Work evenings nights and /or weekends when the situation requires it.

- The Wyoming Department of Health is anEVerifyemployee.
- As a condition of employment the successful applicant will be required to execute a release of personnel records to the director/board/commissioners in the county area involved on an asneeded basis. In addition the successful applicant will be required to complete an Employee Health Assessment which includes verification of immunity to vaccinepreventable diseases. If found to be nonimmune vaccination will be required unless medically contraindicated. Yearly influenza vaccination is also required unless medically contraindicated. A background check including the taking of fingerprints will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation the Department of Family Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant. BLS/CPR for Healthcare Professionals is required.

- One year of service in the position must be completed. Failure to complete this requirement will require reimbursement of the bonus with the funds deducted from the final pay.
- Internal candidates will be required to remain in the position for a minimum of 1 year from the promotion date.
- Employees will only be eligible for 1 hiring bonus in a 12month period.
