****Applicants seeking shortterm or parttime work with the University Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or instructionaltype positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for fulltime employees and up to 1 calendar year for parttime employees.

Other Conditions: Position is a temporary casual hire position and offers no benefits hours not to exceed 19.75 hours per week. Continuous recruitment until programmatic needs are met.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Reports to the Assistant Media Relations Director of assigned sport.
  2. Public Address Announcer is responsible for gameday announcing for University of Hawaii at Manoa Athletics sporting events.
  3. Read pregame announcements introduction of the National Anthem and player introductions;
  4. Read ingame announcements of game events and scripted announcements during stoppages of play
  5. Read halftime announcements including game statistics and promotional events;
  6. Read postgame announcements as directed;
  7. As directed by the designated game manager provides announcements to crowd during the game to ensure a healthy competitive atmosphere exists for all home athletic contests
  8. Ability to adapt to quickly changing game situations.
  9. Ability to think and work under timesensitive situations.
  10. Knowledge and understanding of rules and statistics of designed assigned sport.
  11. Maintain collaborative working relationships with administrators employees and coaches in the department and appropriate members of the media donors and other individuals interested in the sports program.
  12. Know recognize and comply with the laws policies rules and regulations governing the University of Hawaii and its employees and the rules of the NCAA and affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future. Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if you have reasonable cause to believe violations whether by employees or students have occurred or will occur.
  13. Other duties as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Bachelors Degreeor any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Previous sports announcing experience preferred.
  3. Strong and pleasant voice with attention to proper pronunciations.
  4. Strong attention to detail.
  5. Expressive clear and controlled vocal skills.
  6. Varied vocal delivery based on game situation.
  7. Advanced knowledge of sports.
  8. Knowledge and understanding of rules and statistics of designed sport.
  9. Ability to think and work under timesensitive situations.
  10. Must be able to work weekdays weekends holidays and nights when needed as many events are scheduled on Friday Saturday and Sunday.
