- About the Role:
King County Wastewater Treatment Division is one of the top wastewater utilities in the nation involved in cutting edge technologies and approaches to conveyance treatment and reclamation of wastewater. The variety and scale of our facilities and projects will be beyond what most employers can offer.
Senior Mechanical Project Engineers / Design Managers will be involved in pump station upgrades treatment plant upgrades and conveyance projects. The following are some of the major ongoing or upcoming projects: SunsetHeathfield Pump Replacement Lakeland Hills Pump Station West Point Raw Sewage Pump Replacement Richmond Beach Forcemain and Interceptor Upgrade Hidden Lake Pump Upgrade North Beach Pump Station Upgrade Murray Pump Station Upgrade South Plant Digester Circulation Pump Replacement South Plant Raw Sewage Pump Replacement Barton Pump Station Upgrade Richmond Beach Bar Screen Replacement Medina Pump Station upgrade Elliot West Wet Weather Treatment Upgrade West Point Grit Classifier Mouth of the Duwamish CSO Alki Wet Weather Treatment modifications.This position is an opportunity to work on a fun and collaborative team who is dedicated to design process improvement and producing quality products to improve the WTD conveyance and treatment systems. Several upcoming projects will be delivered under nontraditional or collaborative delivery methods such as General Contractor Construction Management Construction Manager at Risk and Progressive DesignBuild.
WTD offers flexible working hours union representation pension plan and workfromhome. This position performs work remotely and onsite.

What You Will Be Doing:
- Serve as Project Engineer / Design Manager on County design projects. As the Project Engineer / Design Manager coordinate design with other engineering disciplines the engineering design review team and other team members; translate operational and maintenance requirements into terms the project team understands; review and consolidate technical comments from design reviews; serve as a single point of technical contact for the project to the Project Manager; develop work plan schedule and budget for the of designs for wastewater projects.
- Review consultant prepared plans and specifications to ensure conformity to the Countys specifications standards and requirements.
- Prepare public works and procurement contract documents and cost estimates to comply with County and State public bidding policy including stamping and signing engineering plans as a licensed Professional Engineer.
- Construction Support and Technical Consultation: Provide technical support during construction. Review contractor submittals and RFIs. Interpret specifications and drawings. Ensure construction aligns with design intentions and regulations. Address technical issues and review change orders
- Assist with complex emergency repairs of wastewater facilities when technical engineering assistance as necessary. Coordinate with the work of maintenance personnel or contractors to accomplish necessary repairs.
- Develop and update mechanical specifications design standards and standard details for incorporation into standard project documentation.
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
Qualifications You Bring:
- Bachelors degree in civil engineering mechanical engineering or closely related engineering field.
- Eight 8 years of increasingly responsible engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience in solving complex technical issues within a multidiscipline work environment.
- Experience in managing multiple complex capital projects simultaneously within established timeframes and costs.
- Knowledge of mechanical and energy codes.
- Familiarity with wastewater and/or industrial facilities and construction principles and techniques.
- Customer Focused Building strong customer relationships and delivering customercentric solutions.
- Manages Complexity Making sense of complex high quantity and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.

- Washington State Drivers License.
- Registration as a Profession Engineer in State of Washington or the ability to obtain this within 90 days of hiring.
- Proficient in hydraulic software such as AFT Fathom or similar
- Work experience with wastewater pump station design
- Work experience with mechanical equipment found in wastewater treatment plants including pumps piping systems and valves solids/liquids separation equipment blowers and compressors.
- Experience with planning and design of Wastewater Treatment Plant processes.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals from consultants elected officials the general public Operations and Maintenance other County staff and other stakeholders.
- Ability to provide leadership and direction to the professional and technical staff of a section responsible for implementing a major engineering program.
- Ability to delegate authority to personnel commensurate with responsibility.
- Desire and ability to mentor juniorlevel staff.
Supplemental Information
Working Conditions:
- Remote and Onsite Work Details:Employees in this role work remotely from a home location with onsite reporting requirements 1 2 weekly at the treatment plants. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites including the collaboration space at King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St Seattle WA 98104 and treatment plant facilities. This work arrangement promotes worklifebalance and reduces carbon footprint under the departments vision of Green Where We Work.
- Requirement:Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.
- Work Schedule:This fulltime position works a 40hour work week. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
- Union Representation:This position is represented by Technical Employees Association (TEA).
