Job Description

Overview

The Grand County office of Utah State University Extension seeks a qualified individual to coordinate countywide youth programs consistent with the USU 4H vision. General duties include recruiting youth and volunteers to actively participate in 4H providing educational experiences and representing the principles of positive youth development through 4H programs. This position of 4H Exenstion Program Coordinator I will also have duties related to assisting with the County Fair budgeting seeking donations 4H enrollments and providing training and support to volunteers. Occasional travel may be required for trainings and/or statewide 4H events and access to a reliable vehicle is required.

This position will work cohesively with Grand County Extension Faculty the USU 4H Team and the local community to deliver relevant programming and assistance in multiple 4H related topics. These topics include but are not limited to Leadership Civic Engagement Life Skills Healthy Living STEM Family and Consumer Sciences and Communicative and Expressive Arts.

This is a fulltime inperson position with full benefits in Moab Utah. Typical office hours are 8am 5pm Monday Thursday. Hours may vary during busy times such as County Fair. Occasional nights and weekends may be required for special events. Job offer contingent upon successfully passed background check. Recommendation from the local sheriffs office may be requested.

Responsibilities

  • Advance the 4H program in the county by recruiting and training youth and volunteers to organize and join 4H Clubs.
  • Provide support and guidance to existing and new volunteers and 4H clubs.
  • Promote Regional and State 4H programs. This may include marketing registering and supporting volunteers in facilitating opportunities.
  • Support a variety of Extension outreach activities that may include school enrichment activities such as Farm Field Day Career Days etc. educator trainings camps and teen leadership programs day camps etc.
  • Respond to requests office visits telephone calls emails and other correspondence promptly and professionally.
  • Be an active member of the USU Youth Programs Team which includes participating in meetings serving on working groups and assisting at regional and state events.
  • Manage 4H related budgets
  • Coordinate the 4H section of the Grand County Fair
  • Seek external donations and funding to support the USU Extension 4H Programs
  • Support the Civil Rights mandate of Utah State University Extension and implement innovative approaches to reach diverse audiences.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the County Director.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree plus two years of related work experience; or a bachelors degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience
  • Desire to work with youth and volunteers.
  • Access to reliable transportation

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to pleasantly interact with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft office Internet Zoom etc.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to provide leadership and provide guidance to different programs and volunteers.
  • Ability to teach manage and engage an audience (youth and adult).
  • Ability to market USU Extension youth program events and opportunities.
  • Ability to effectively utilize social media to raise awareness of opportunities.
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends (to aid clubs and events as applicable)
  • Ability to travel throughout area of responsibility occasional statewide consistent with university policy.
  • Strong organizational time and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with recruiting supervising and working with volunteers.
  • Previous employment or experience with 4H or other youth serving organizations.
  • Experience managing budgets.
  • Experience with youth and adult education.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish
  • Experience working with low income diverse and underserved audiences.
  • Knowledge of the Land Grant University system.
  • Prior experience with community programming
