Job Description

Anticipated Everett Alternative School STEM Teacher Grades 912

Description:

The Alternative High School STEM Teacher is responsible for utilizing researchbased pedagogical strategies to teach and engage diverse groups of students in grades 912. This Teacher is critical to the success of our Alternative School program for overaged undercredited High School Students. The Teacher must work collaboratively with the EHS Science and Math Department Heads the Assistant Principal and other Alternative School faculty throughout the year to continually improve the experience and performance of our students. The Teacher must be flexible and willing to meet the scheduling needs of students within the Alternative School schedule. Teachers should be well versed in Massachusetts High School Math and Science Standards as well as Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices and Universal Design to ensure access to content for all students. Teachers must exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.

Teachers are expected to teach five classes and lead one advisory period each day.

Working Time: 9:30am4:30pm Monday through Thursday 8am3pm on Fridays

Location: Devens School

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Math and/or related field
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification in Math for Grades 912
  • SEI Endorsement

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Masters Degree in Education Mathematics or related field
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification in Science Grades 912
  • 3 or more years of high school teaching experience
  • Dual Licensure in Special Education and/or English as a Second Language
  • Experience working in an urban public school setting with high school students
  • Proficiency in reading writing and speaking in English and a second language..
  • Strong growth mindset flexibility and collaborative skills.

Essential Duties:

  • Plan and facilitate lessons aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for Math and Science using districtprovided highquality curriculum materials.
  • Monitor student progress and performance on online math and science coursework.
  • Use all available technology curricula provided by the district to create engaging math and science lessons that are linked with 21stcentury skills and remote accessibility.
  • Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students and limit disruptions.
  • Incorporate socialemotional learning standards and curriculum that promote a sense of belonging inclusion selfconfidence teambuilding and informed decisionmaking.
  • Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for students on IEPs and English Learners.
  • Incorporate language activities aligning with WIDA Standards into instruction including listening speaking reading and writing to meet the needs of multilingual learners.
  • Use evidencebased culturally and linguistically sustaining instructional practices to provide equitable opportunities for gradelevel learning.
  • Administer assessments and utilize available data to make instructional decisions that target students academic and linguistics needs including MCAS and ACCESS and other literacy and math formative and summative assessments.
  • Create and maintain a safe supportive and inclusive environment by establishing classroom routines and systems to support student learning.
  • Communicate with students families on a regular basis using culturally responsive strategies that promote twoway conversations.
  • Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development that is relevant to the challenges of urban education in order to close opportunity gaps.
  • Collaborate and coplan with Special Education and ESL teachers to provide high quality instruction and support for Special Education Students and English Learners.
  • Collaborate with school adjustment and guidance counselors to support students social emotional and mental health needs.
  • Collaborate with special education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all accommodations are consistently and adequately delivered.
  • Contribute to schoolwide initiatives and events as assigned by supervisor/assistant principal including onetoone and group checkins with students school events daily student advisories recognition ceremonies and communitybuilding activities.

Salary:

Salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
