Graphic Design & Visual Communications Teacher

Qualifications & Licensure Requirements:
Candidates must hold or be eligible for a Massachusetts Chapter 74 Vocational Technical Educator License in Graphic Design and Visual Communications 914.
For Candidates Without a Teaching License:
Applicants must meet the Massachusetts DESE licensure requirements including:
- Work Experience: At least four 4 years of fulltime employment experience in graphic design visual communications or a related field.
- Education: An associate degree or higher in a related field.
- Licensure Process: Ability to obtain a Massachusetts Vocational Technical Teaching License 914 by:
- Passing the NOCTI written and performance exams (administered by the state).
- Achieving a passing score on one of the Massachusetts Literacy Skills MTELs.
- Obtaining the Massachusetts Sheltered English Immersion SEI Endorsement within the required timeline.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching CTE programs or industry training settings.
- Knowledge of freelancing client management and agency work.
- Industryrecognized credentials in print production digital media or design software.
- Familiarity with UX/UI design and essential web development (HTML/CSS preferred).
- OSHA10 certification or willingness to obtain it.
- Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
General Summary:
Teach and mentor students in a comprehensive handson program that prepares them for careers in graphic design digital media animation print production and emerging technologies.
This role blends traditional design principles with modern industry tools covering topics such as branding typography animation video production UX/UI design and print technologies. The ideal candidate will have industry experience in Adobe Creative Cloud software web design digital and offset printing and project management as well as the ability to guide students toward industry certifications portfolio development and career readiness.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in graphic design branding typography motion graphics UX/UI design web development video production and print technologies.
- Teach students to use industrystandard software such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop Illustrator InDesign Premiere Pro After Effects Animate Acrobat and related design programs).
- Incorporate traditional and digital printing techniques including offset printing largeformat printing screen printing dyesublimation and prepress production.
- Introduce animation and video editing using After Effects Animate and Premiere Pro.
- Guide students through realworld design projects emphasizing client communication project management and entrepreneurship.
- Ensure students understand digital literacy cybersecurity in design and ethical online practices.
- Support Coop placements internships and industry collaborations to help students gain realworld experience.
- Provide career coaching and portfolio development support to ensure students graduate with competitive skills.
This position is part of transitioning from the former Graphic Communications/Printing program into Graphic Design and Visual Communications (GDVC). While the curriculum now includes more digital media it also retains essential printing elements requiring candidates with expertise in both digital design and print.
