Job Description

Description of Work


**Position is eligible for a hybrid remote teleworking schedule to include weekly onsite work hours.**

The purpose of this position is to assist the Telecommunications Resources Program (TRP) in promoting telecommunications relay service (TRS) and Equipment Distribution Services (EDS) to North Carolina Deaf Hard of Hearing Speech Impaired and Hearing populations; coordinate outreach activities for TRS and EDS and assist in gathering public input from consumers organizations and businesses; and conduct research to identify appropriate target groups program outreach events activities and publications statewide.


Public Outreach

  • Provide EDS information to community businesses agencies and professionals relating to communication needs of deaf hard of hearing and deafblind individuals
  • Coordinate presentations upon requests to agencies/organizations/schools/civic groups
  • Network (attend/participate) with professionals at organizations/civic group meetings workshops/conferences and at other functions deemed appropriate by the TRP/RC manager
  • Identify certain groups for presentations and services
  • Monitor and evaluate outreach activities
  • Assist the with booths at conventions and workshops in this positions catchments areas


Technical Assistance

  • Provide EDS assistance with completion of applications and gathering of required information for EDS forms
  • Assess hearing loss and/or other additional disabilities for appropriate equipment selection and the ability for consumer to utilize technology available appropriately
  • Provide training for consumers
  • Provide troubleshooting for equipment problems
  • Provide loaner equipment for consumers that arent eligible to apply or their equipment is being repaired


Training

  • Coordinate presentations to agencies and service providers who work with deaf hard of hearing and deafblind individuals
  • Market presentations that will benefit the community in accessing and understanding the telecommunications needs of deaf hard of hearing and deafblind individuals
  • Provide customized training to consumers who may benefit from access to the telecommunications world


Program Development and Maintenance

  • Develop TRP/EDS presentations
  • Identify target groups that may need information about EDS.
  • Maintain monthly activity reports
  • Promote research on new outreach activities
  • Meet with EDS staff on regular basis to review outreach activities and plan new activities
Maintain demonstration equipment and VRS

Qualified applicants must possess and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:

Management preference will be given to candidates with:
  • Basic knowledge/skills in American Sign Language.

  • Knowledge of telecommunications equipment for individuals who are Deaf DeafBlind or Hard Of Hearing (HOH)

  • Networking with local and state organizations

  • Experience with outreach work

  • Ability to train individuals on the use of telecommunications equipment

  • Excellent public speaking skills as well as verbal and written skills.

  • Basic knowledge of state and federal laws related to telecommunications access and technology

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelors degree in a discipline relative to the program served from an appropriately accredited institution;
OR
Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in an area related to program that provides experience in techniques of casework or counseling;
OR
equivalent combination of education and experience.
