Summary:

The Clinical Process Improvement Specialist works collaboratively with teams and department leaders throughout Cook Children Healthcare System. They strive to fulfill the commitment of Our Promise. Will provide unique clinical insights that will facilitate the implementation of process improvement initiatives and programs. The Clinical Specialist acts as an organizational process improvement champion who leads departmental and crossfunctional teams through all aspects of the continuous improvement effort using Lean Six Sigma and other effective strategies and methodologies and facilitates the identification understanding and improvement of process issues by using appropriate quantitative and qualitative tools. Foundationally the Clinical Specialist must have the experience and expertise to function as a clinically knowledgeable operational excellence resource for the system and will have a unique expertise in applying PI tools to clinical operations. This position will work to support the delivery of top quality care using the principles of process improvement as expected by regulatory entities such as The Joint Commission Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and other entities as identified. The Clinical Specialist will aid in ensuring improvements are aligned with regulatory requirements and will serve as an internal coach on clinically related issues and improvements.

Qualifications:

  • BSN required.

  • 5 years clinical nursing experience and at least 1 year of clinical quality experience.

  • Must have an understanding of Process Improvement methodologies and general frameworks with at least 1 year in a healthcare setting.

  • Must be knowledgeable and proficient in data collection and analysis.

  • Must be proficient in the use of word processing applications spreadsheet programs database applications and the use of webbased technology to conduct research i.e. literature and evidencebased searches.

  • Must be proficient and competent in the use of Epic EHR in particular the reporting tools.

  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills organizational and interpersonal skills ability to work with all members of the health care team to achieve positive outcomes.

  • Must demonstrate facilitation and collaboration skills with the ability to lead multidisciplinary groups.

  • Must be able to adapt to changing healthcare environment and requirements.

  • Must have a working knowledge of requirements from regulatory entities e.g. The Joint Commission (TJC).


Certification/Licensure:

  • Current Texas Nursing license required.

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean Practitioner Certification is required.

  • Must be able to secure Minitab statistical certification within 4 months of employment.

  • Appropriate certificates must be secured for Power BI SQL Minitab Engage Lucidchart and other internally used software within 1 year of employment.

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification is preferred. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) must be secured within 2 years of employment
