ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY!

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) The Civil Rights Office is looking for a College Intern 1 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing:

Using mapping and data collection tools i.e. smart level measuring wheel tape ruler etc. we are looking for an intern to go out into the field and assist in the measurements of curb ramps for the American Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan for Right of Way project. Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Gather data to aid the Civil Rights Office with determining compliance with applicable federal laws and regulations of State owned RightsofWays.

  • Collect and record information received from assessment for use in a GIS database.

  • Aid in mapping layers for each (asset information) that is collected on i.e. curb ramps sidewalks pedestrian signals parking lots intersections driveways etc.

  • Assist in developing mapping layers for each rating scale

  • Assist in plotting mapping layers for each asset at a particular rating

This position will assist the Civil Rights Office in meeting federal mandates under the American Disabilities Act and Title VI.

This is not your traditional job but instead offers a chance to enjoy working outside while helping the State of Alaska meet the ADA requirements for intersections.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is located at 2200 East 42nd Avenue in the Annex Building in Anchorage. The building is located at the intersection of Lake Otis & Tudor. It is a shared office with another member of the Civil Rights Office team. The work is mostly carried out in an outdoor setting providing opportunities for collaboration with colleagues as well as working independently.

Currently accepted enrolled and attending an accredited college in an undergraduate degree program while maintaining an academic load of at least six credit hours per semester (eight credit hours per quarter).

Academic transcripts and/or tuition billings may be construed as proof of enrollment.

Appointment and retention in this class series is restricted to students actively pursuing an undergraduate degree program in an accredited college and maintaining an academic load of at least six semester (eight quarter) credit hours per semester (quarter).

Students who have completed spring semester courses and are enrolled in fall semester courses are considered to be attending college during the summer regardless of whether or not summer courses are taken.
