Job Description

Position: Permanent Sub Van Driver 2 positions)

Start Date: Immediately June 13th

Location: Transportation

Salary: $23.77 per/hr

Bargaining Unit: UDESPA

Requirements: Valid PA Drivers License

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

School Bus Drivers are responsible for transporting students safely to and from school and provides assistance as requested by the transportation office. Drives bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

School Bus Drivers are directly responsible to the transportation manager.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Work Year: 10 months

Hours: Varies 5 hours per day

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The list is intended to be illustrative rather than complete and serves to show major duties and responsibilities and does not express or imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the incumbent in this position. The employee will be required to perform any other positionrelated duties requested by the Transportation Manager and/or Director of Transportation.

  1. Transports students safely to and from school. Assume responsibility for the safety of school children in loading unloading and transporting them to and from school.
  2. Signals children when to cross street or highway and assures that children are safely across upon departure from bus.
  3. Maintains discipline; reports unruly behavior to principal of school or to supervisor.
  4. Maintains CDL License to be able to operate a school bus.
  5. Supervises pupil respect of others on bus.
  6. Inspects interior bus at end of each run.
  7. Maintains cleanliness of bus interior.
  8. Pretrip and posttrip inspection of bus each day
  9. Report delays and accidents.
  10. Accepts other duties from the transportation manager.

QUALIFICATIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

To successfully perform this position a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement training skill and/or ability necessary. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Ability to operate a bus in a safe and economical manner.
  • Maintains CDL License to be able to operate a school bus.
  • As required by law must pass medical examination annually and maintain S & P endorsements
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to perform work requiring good physical condition.
  • Clean driving records.
  • Relaxed and calm demeanor.
  • Ability to relate to students parents and school system personnel.
  • Ability to complete various forms and records including; route sheets time sheets field trip forms incident and accident reports etc.
  • Maintain pleasant rapport with students and parents.
  • Must be able to accept changes and be flexible in routine.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Light Work: Exerting 5 to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
    • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arms(s) in any direction.
    • Handling: Holding grasping or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to extent that they are an extension of the hand such as pushing of buttons.
    • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
    • Noise: The noise intensity level to which the worker is exposed in the job environment. (Moderate)
