While working at Caterpillar Inc. the successful candidate for this position will function as an CNC Technician at the Building Construction Products Divisions plant in Athens position will be primarily focused on support for machining Small TrackType Tractors (STTT) and MiniHydraulic Excavator (MHE) structures. As a 3rd Shift position the expected work hours will be 11 pm 7:30 am (SunFri) but additional hours or shifted schedules may be required depending on business needs. The primary job will be proactive in process optimization CNC machining data analysis and able to recognize and institute tooling/fixture improvements.

In this role you may be expected to:

  • Troubleshoot and develop solutions for manufacturing issues.
  • Monitor and communicate machining process capabilities (Cpk and Cp monthly reviews).
  • Initiate tooling improvement projects.
  • Perform quality checks on machines parts and tooling.
  • Issue Process Change Notifications (PCNs) to the operations and quality teams when making program fixture or tooling changes.
  • Monitor and maintain record of machine center coolant concentrations.
  • Collaborate with the operations quality and manufacturing engineering teams to successfully execute manufacturing and engineering changes.
  • Modify engineering documentation as needed.
  • Train team members on tooling setup and maintenance.
  • Respond to customer issues and lead process improvements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be able to function independently in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Three years of machining experience.
  • Proficient in hand and power tools.

Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Willing and able to sit/stand for prolonged periods.
  • Willing and able to perform repetitive operations.
  • Willing and able to lift up to 35 lbs.

Top candidates will also have:

  • Diploma or associate degree in Machining Technology (or related field).
  • Experience in writing and manipulating CNC programs.
  • Ability to modify tooling and speeds/feeds to optimize quality and reduce total cost.
  • Ability to rebuild and correctly setup of complex cutting tools and fixtures.
  • Ability to inspect parts using complex gaging and interpret dimensional reports and SPC data.
  • Understanding of blueprints and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience in training peers and new employees on machining processes.
  • Experience with conducting time studies.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing.
  • Experience with or ability to learn Power BI and Microsoft Teams SharePoint system.

Additional information:Resumes must be attached for all candidates and must be reflective of actual work is a 3rd shift position (SunFri; 11 pm7:30 am) but additional hours or shifted schedules may be required depending on business needs. Entry pay is $29.70/hour (includes 8%night shift premium).

Summary Pay Range:

$27.50 $34.40
