Job Description

Introduction

TheMaryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified applicants for a parttimecontractual Travel Information Aide I position within the Office of TourismDevelopment for the I95 South Welcome Center.

Theposition is located at the Interstate 95 Southboundbetween Exits 38 & 35 (Mile Marker 37 near Savage Maryland (Howard Co).

The incumbent will work 32 hours Biweekly 16 hours per week).

Main Purpose of Job

The primary function of the position will be to provide travel and historical information to Maryland visitors.

POSITION DUTIES

Individual will inform thetraveling public about Maryland attractions accommodations recreationalfacilities services and destinations; inform travelers about current eventsand activities; read maps and give specific directions to Marylanddestinations as well as provide assistance in reaching destinations. Inventoryand supply management may be required; this may include lifting bulk packagingand operation of stock room equipment such as a hand truck.

The Welcome Center is opened daily 7 days per week from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A high schooldiploma or a State GED certificate

AND

Experience: Two 2 years of experience working inpublic information in a tourismrelated industry (e.g. accommodationscampgrounds travel development agency information center guide servicecustomer service hospitality etc..

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the selective qualification(s) to be clear and specific information on your application regardingyour qualifications.

Candidatesshould be able to relate to the public in a friendly and competent manner; andmust be able to interpret highway maps. Applicants must be able to workweekends since the center is open 7 days per week yearround. Knowledgeof Maryland history geography and tourist attractions is required. Candidatesmust be computer literate and also be able to frequently lift and/or move up to50 pounds.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Applicants must be willing to accept parttime contractual employment at 16 hours per week 32 hours biweekly).

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee you will be responsible for paying 25 of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75 of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage accidental death and dismemberment insurance and life insurance but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
