Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Required Driver certifications in accordance with Michigan law. Must have or be able to obtain a commercial drivers license with a P and S endorsement.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record and be able to pass the DOT physical including drug test.
  • Continuing education classes must be completed as required to maintain licensing certification
  • Must pass the State of Michigan Skill Test and State written test.
  • CPR and first aid certification preferred.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems in various situations.
  • Ability to work in a friendly manner with coworkers parents and students.
  • Ability to read and understand maps.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education Policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drives a school bus safely and professionally
  • Performs and properly completes pretrip and posttrip inspections
  • Complies with all traffic ordinances and regulation
  • Supervises students while transporting them
  • Complies with discipline policies set forth in the School Code of Conduct for Transportation
  • Complies with the rules and regulations of the Kenowa Hills Drivers Handbook
  • Participates in onsite training
  • Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering school buses.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk sit use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms stoop kneel or crouch; talk or hear. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is continuously driving on the job. The employee frequently repeats the same hand arm or finger motions.

The employee will frequently bend twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job.

While performing this job the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100 and below 32 and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of others. The employee must be able to climb steps and to access all mirrors doors windows and the engine compartment.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
