Job Description
The Department of Construction Science (COSC) in the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University (TAMU) invites applications from qualified candidates for up to three fulltime tenured or tenuretrack Assistant Associate or Full Professor positions with a target start date ofFall 2025. While our primary goal is to hire qualified candidates at the Associate Professor level we also encourage candidates with an outstanding record of teaching scholarship supported by external grants and service to apply as exceptional applicants may be considered for positions at the Assistant or Full Professor levels.
We seek candidates who can develop a highly visible and nationally recognized research program in their area of expertise contribute to scholarly work in the construction domain promote students lifelong learning by integrating research and education and engage in professional service. Core responsibilities for this position also include teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as providing service to the department university and professional community including outreach to the industry.
The Department of Construction Science (COSC)is one of the largest and most renowned programs of construction higher education. The Department offers STEM degrees in all three B.S. M.S. (facetoface and online options) and Ph.D. levels. The undergraduate program in Construction Science has been continuously accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) since 1978 and in 2012 the masters program in Construction Management was the first graduate program accredited by ACCE. In 2021 the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) approved the Ph.D. program in construction science. This doctoral program in construction is the first in Texas and offers three concentration areas; i) construction management and safety ii) smart construction and iii) sustainable construction to meet the rapid changes and demands of the construction industry and academia. The Department has 1 a student population composed of over 1500 students at the undergraduate level 150studentsat the Masters degree level and 30 Ph.D. students.; 2 70 faculty and staff members; 3 the strong support of a Construction Industry Advisory Council (CIAC) composed of over 300 firms from various AEC/FM domains; and 4 eight endowed professorships. Each year the Department awards more than $500000 in scholarships through the support of our partners and conducts the largest departmentlevel career fair at TAMU. The Department is housed in Francis Hall a stateoftheart 35000 SF historic building located in the heart of the campus which is the only standalone building for construction education in Texas. - A Ph.D. degree in construction or a closely related discipline on or before the start date of their appointment.
- Demonstrated evidence of or a strong potential to develop a highimpact research program supported by external funding and collaborate across disciplines to develop research initiatives in their area of expertise.
- Commitment to excellence in teaching in both graduate and undergraduate levels and mentoring of undergraduates graduate students and postdocs.
Preferred Qualifications for Successful Candidates:
- A minimum of three years of industry experience in the U.S.
- Expertise and a successful research/teaching record in core construction management areas including construction materials and methods scheduling estimating and project management.
- Expertise and a successful research/teaching record in efficient building design and performance modeling M/E/P systems and related fields.
- Expertise experience and interest in designing and implementing construction workforce and professional development programs.
- Expertise in emerging areas of construction research and education not currently covered by our faculty.
Successful candidates are expected to teach at both graduate and undergraduate levels.A standard teaching load for a tenure track or tenured faculty is two courses per semester.
