Title: AVID Tutor
Work Schedule:Tentative Schedule: Approx 2 hours per day/2 days per week.
Reports to:Building Principal AVID Coordinatorand AVID Teacher
Purpose and Objectives of the Position: The AVID Tutor assists theAVIDteacher bytaking an active role in developing the academic and personal strengths of AVID students. Serving as a role model/mentor to AVID students by being a lifelong learner demonstrating appropriate academic and social tutors are needed to tutorAVIDstudents during the AVID elective class for a minimum of two hours a day two days a week in the high school. To accomplish these tasks the AVID Tutor works closely with the AVID coordinatorAVIDteacherandbuilding principal.
Essential Job Functions:
- Take an active role in developing the academic and personal strengths of AVID students.
- Serve as a role model/mentor to AVID students by being a lifelong learner demonstrating appropriate academic and social behaviors.
- Determine from students notes and discussions the concepts that need to be taught or retaught.
- Evaluate student binders including calendars class and textbook notes etc.
- Become familiar with the materials in the AVID Curriculum Libraries.
- Become familiar with the textbooks and materials used by AVID students.
- Conduct tutorial sessions in all areas of mathematics; therefore a strong math background is mandatory.
- Conduct minilessons in the process of writing in all subject areas study skills and other aspects of college preparation.
- Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students to follow.
- Work with students in any phase of the writing process such as brainstorming clustering revision and editing.
- Communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern.
- Facilitates cooperation among all persons in the school community.
- Follow district policies handbooks and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and in accordance with theprovisions of the USD 450 Board of Education.
- Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others including the ability to communicate effectively with broad and diverse audiences.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires stooping bending kneeling turning and reaching.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Must occasionally work in a noisy and crowded environment with numerous interruptions.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
- Must be a college student with at minimum 2.5 G.P.A.
- Must have a strong math and English background evidenced by college transcript
- Ability to use personal computer and software.
- Ability to observe and follow all district policies at all times.
- Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner meeting deadlines as assigned.
- Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Must verify good health by passing a physical examination which includes TB and drug test as required.
- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
- Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.
