Job Description

Student Support Specialist

JOB TITLE: Student Support Specialist

REPORTS TO: Building Principal & Director of Special Ed

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

  • The Student Support Specialist will work with the Administrators Special Education Staff and Students to provide support in all aspects of Special Education in the school setting. Behavioral support training state and federal compliance and direct student support are just a few of the areas that Student Support Specialists lend their expertise in the school setting.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cofacilitate RTI process; serve as liaison to SSS committee for testing decisions
  • Collaborate in arranging/maintaining/training staff on mindfulness and sensory space (with OT/PT as needed)
  • First point of contact for all Movein IEP information; review; assemble team; schedule meeting with parents; help facilitate
  • Serve on the building crisis team
  • Train sped/gen ed teachers on IIEPrelated issues and ensure compliance of services and accommodations
  • Facilitate ACR schedules based on initial eligibility dates to assist with coordinating between all participating providers (exception SI/LI only)
  • Provide consult services as needed for students with behavior/socialemotional needs (observation individual or small group)
  • Provide consult services as needed for students with ASD needs
  • Complete any schoolrelated duties as specified by the building principal
  • Monitor IEPs for compliance issues and needs
  • Work in partnerships with building administrators to develop behavior intervention for gen ed students that are not IEP related as part of RTI
  • Serve on 504 committee as needed
  • Ensure Special Education documentation maintained properly in permanent files
  • Maintain central school document of needs arising from ACR meetings to serve as compliance check
  • Facilitate IEP meetings as needed and assist with notetaking/moderating/question specific etc
  • Assist with scheduling questions with Resource teachers regarding maintaining compliance of IEP service minutes
  • Facilitate review of accommodations from each Resource Teacher for statetesting needs to ensure accuracy
  • Help moderate IREAD or ILEARN sessions as needed
  • Facilitate FBA process and documentation
  • Facilitate formation of BIPs and insertion into IEPs
  • Organize and facilitate PLC meetings with SPED staff
  • Facilitate communication between all providers within the school building
  • Support school staff for program implementation of students IEP.
  • Provides direct to students to support their behavior needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years of teacher experience
  • Licensure: Any Special Education License Rules 2022 REPA/REPA 3 or equivalent for Rules 4647

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience working with students with behavioral needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both adults and students.
  • Demonstrates a sincere desire to aid all students.
