Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

An SLPA must complete an approved course of academic study field work under the supervision of an ASHAcertified and/or licensed SLP and onthejob training specific to SLPA responsibilities and workplace behaviors.

  • An Associates Degree in an SLPA program
  • A Bachelors Degree in a speechlanguage pathology or communication disorders program
  • Successful completion of a minimum of 100 hours of supervisd field work experience or its clinical experience equivalent
  • Demonstartion of competency in the skills required of an SLPA

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education andSpeech Language Pathologist

SUPERVISES: N/A

JOB OVERVIEW:The SLPA will assist the Speech Language Pathologists in caring for the needs of students on an IEP for speech services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to the responsibilities for the SLPAs specified in this document and refrain from performing tasks or activities that are the sole responsibilty of the SLP.
  • Perform only the tasks prescribed by the supervising SLP
  • Adhere to all applicable state licensure laws and rules regulating the practice of speechlanguage pathology such as those requiring licensure or registration of support personnel.
  • Conduct oneself ethically within the scope of practice and responsibiliites for an SLPA.
  • Actively participate with the SLP in the supervisory process.
  • Assist with clerical duties as directed by the SLP.
  • Perform checks and amintenance of equipment.
  • Assist with departmental operations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:184 day contract

WORK ENVIRONMENT:This position will require travel to multiple campuses and will be mostly in a classroom lab type setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Hear speak and interpret.Walking bending kneeling and reaching. Sitting for long periods of time. Lift and move objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Read write and interpret written documents. Manipulate handle feel and control items or equipment.

EVALUATION: In accordance with Board Policy and appropriate procedural regulations. The Director of Special Services will be responsible for completing the evaluation.

SALARY:In accordance with Board Policy and placement on the support salary schedule.
