Job Description

Penguin Random House has an exciting opportunity available as a Production Editor responsible for managing the production lifecycle of demandfocused trenddriven titles. This position will play an essential role in bringing practical nonfiction titles to market quickly while working closely with internal editorial production and design colleagues.

Additional responsibilities include:

  1. Utilizing industry contacts to develop a roster of freelancers and continuing to build robust relationships.
  2. Hiring and supervising freelance writers copyeditors and proofreaders.
  3. Nurturing relationships with and assigning work to freelancers.
  4. Supervising copy editing and proofreading freelanced work and circulating materials through the department.

  • Minimum of 5 years of publishing experience including experience independently working on original and reprint content
  • Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Highly organized with the ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a deadlinedriven environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technical skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word electronic copy editing and tracking changes
  • Contacts in journalism and magazine industries
