Job Description

Department Overview

Patients in the Electrophysiology & Cardiac Catheterization Lab are cared for by a multidisciplinary team including Registered Nurses Registered Radiologic Technologists Interventional Cardiologists and Electrophysiologists. Procedures in the Electrophysiology (EP) Lab are performed from pediatrics to geriatrics that include but not limited to: diagnostic EP studies atrial flutter/fib ablations PVC ablations SVT ablations VT ablations temp pacer Watchman Lariat loop recorders and implanted pacemakers/defibrillators. Patients require continuous cardiac monitoring and frequent physician nursing and technologist intervention.

The EP Cardiovascular Radiologic Technologist (CV RTR) performs a variety of technical functions and patient care activities intraprocedure. The primary function of the CV RTR is the operation of fluoroscopy in the EP Lab. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: monitoring procedures scrubbing procedures unit development projects assisting with supply and equipment management/stocking and other duties as assigned. EP CV RTR staff may be cross trained to Cardiac Cath procedures and support those cases as needed. The EP CV RTR may be trained to assist in lead extraction procedures in the SOR Hybrid OR room or walkin procedures in the Cath Lab bay.

The department is open Monday through Friday from 0645 to 1715 for routine urgent and emergent cases. Outpatient procedures are also performed at the Center for Health and Healing Building 2 Multispecialty Procedure Unit (MSPU). Staff are expected to work in both locations. An oncall team is available 7 days a week for all cases after routine hours of operation.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Assists physician during cases while operating a variety of complex radiologic imaging equipment including fluoroscopy and ultrasonography within the Cardiac Cath Lab suite. This includes circulating in the procedure room operating the imaging equipment in both adult and congenital procedures. Cross train to another service area (EP Hybrid OR etc..
  • Prep the patient and prepare supplies under sterile conditions for the procedure. Scrub in with the physician and assist in performing procedure.
  • Accurately obtains xrays for the exams while being respectful to the patients abilities and safety issues.
  • Operates automatic injectors and selects the appropriate contrast agent for the patient and the exam under the physicians direction.
  • In collaboration with other staff provide patient care during examinations.
  • Responsible for equipment maintenance and use including recognizing troubleshooting reporting and documenting equipment malfunctions along with coordinating borrowing equipment from other departments.
  • Work independently oncall with department physicians and nurses.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited diagnostic radiography program
  • Two years of experience in the operation of radiologic equipment or an equivalent combination of specialized training and experience
  • Proven radiologic technologist knowledge skills and abilities
  • A valid Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist license issued by the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) upon hire
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) within 1 month of hire
  • Compliance with Code of Conduct Respect in the workplace and Applicable policies procedures and agreements related to position department or OHSU as a whole

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • Proven EP/Cath Lab technologist knowledge skills and abilities
  • Cardiac Interventional and/or Vascular Interventional certification from ASRT (RCES or RCIS preferred)

Additional Details

Pay Range: $50.55 $69.41 per hour (Commensurate with qualifications experience and internal equity)

  • Must be able to deal with competing needs and priorities of internal and external customers including making correct judgments ensuring safe conditions for patients families and other personnel.
  • Use of all hospital approved clinical equipment. Significant use of computers copiers multiline phones and fax.
  • Fast paced admit/recovery environment with often competing priorities and quick turnover of patients.
  • Must have the ability to change work location based upon procedure volumes and staffing needs.
  • Assignment includes Cath Lab and EP procedures 4 procedure labs inpatient day patient outpatient workflows and two work sites (South Waterfront/CHH2 as well as the 11C unit of the Main OHSU Hospital).
  • Ability to lift bend stoop reach carry push pull and walk throughout the work period. Able to lift 35 lbs independently. Complies with the safe patient mobilization policy when lifting or positioning dependent patients including using mechanical lifts and coordinating the assistance of other personnel.
  • Must be able to use all senses: seeing hearing touching smelling and speaking. Reasonable accommodations include corrective lenses and/or hearing aids.
  • The work environment carries risk of exposure to human tissue/fluids and radiation.
  • Ability to stand up to 6 hours without sitting
  • Ability to wear up to 20 lbs of leaded aprons for 68 hours.
  • Must have the ability to apply and maintain manual pressure to femoral arterial and venous access sites.
