SPCA Westchester and Codys Clinic is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinarian to join our team. Our facility provides comprehensive care for shelter animals as well as offering veterinary services to the public. The position serves as a key member of the Clinic and Rescue Center team and will foster a culture of collaboration and continuous learning. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal welfare a strong work ethic and enjoy working in a fastpaced environment where every day provides new experiences and challenges.
Job Type: FullTime this is typically a Monday Friday 8hour schedule with flexibility to work occasionally beyond the scheduled hours.
Salary: Competitive commensurate with experience $140000 $160000
Key Responsibilities
Veterinary Services:
- Perform surgical procedures including HQ/HV spay/neuter and dentistry.
- Provide outstanding veterinary care to owned homeless stray and TNR pets including surgeries physical exams diagnostics dispensing medication treatment plans preventative medicine case management and humane euthanasia as needed.
- Diagnose and treat postsurgical medical complications.
- Provide a safe and compassionate environment for animals in our care our staff and for our clients by using lowstress handling techniques.
- Knowledge of population and individual animal health management disease prevention control and epidemiology strongly desired.
- Proven decisionmaking and diagnostic skills and an interest in pursuing treatment options with limited resources.
- Practice incremental medicine using critical thinking and decisionmaking skills.
- Collaborate with Rescue Center staff to develop & implement care plans for shelter animals.
- Educate pet owners on preventive healthcare and general care practices.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with SPCA Westchester policies and regulations.
- Oncall phone consultations for evenings weekends and holidays on a rotational basis.
- Participate in community outreach programs and events to promote shelter services.
Leadership:
- Ability to foster a positive work environment and be viewed as a motivator and leader.
- Contribute to initiatives to improve processes and procedures.
- Effectively and compassionately communicate with owners of pets and the community.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree from an accredited veterinary school.
- Current veterinary license in New York State.
- Experience in a shelter environment is preferred but not .
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a teamoriented environment.
- Compassion for animals and dedication to improving their health and wellbeing.
