What you would do as a Licensed Practical Nurse at NODC:
Performs nursing procedures under direction of psychiatric/MR Nurse: transcribes physicians orders; administers controlled (e.g. narcotics minor tranquilizers) & noncontrolled (e.g. aspirin) physician prescribed medications in oral rectal topical or injection form & physician ordered treatments (e.g. administers oxygen applies sterile dressings inserts catheters reinserts gastrostomy tubes suctions collects specimens) to residents with mental ation & developmental disabilities; checks residents for positive & negative reactions to medications &/or treatments; reports negative reactions to Psychiatric/MR Nurse &/or physician immediately & documents incident; assists physician(s) (e.g. with physical exams treatment &/or laboratory tests); treats medical emergencies (e.g. first aid cardiopulmonary resuscitation) & responds to other emergencies (e.g. restrains residents applies Heimlich maneuver in case of fire evacuates residents); charts resident records; prepares & counts medication; orders medication; provides medication instructions to residents & other staff members; orders equipment & supplies (e.g. forms sterile supplies catheters tube feeding equipment) to meet needs of each resident.
