Job Description

District Caretaker

Position Title: District Caretaker (day and evening shifts available)

Department: Operations

Reports To: Operations Director/Lead Caretaker

Pay Scale:$17$18

Hours: 2540 hours/week (parttime and full time available)

SUMMARY:

The District Caretaker is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness safety and functionality of school district facilities. This position performs routine custodial duties minor repairs and basic maintenance tasks to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for students staff and visitors. The role requires a high level of responsibility attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Perform daily custodial tasks such as cleaning classrooms restrooms hallways offices and common areas.
  • Ensure the safe disposal of waste and recycling materials.
  • Conduct minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment including floor buffers vacuum cleaners and power washers.
  • Monitor and replenish supplies such as paper products soap and cleaning agents.
  • Assist with the setup and teardown of furniture and equipment for events and activities.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify and report maintenance needs.
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance or custodial situations including spills leaks or equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintain security by locking/unlocking buildings and monitoring access.
  • Support groundskeeping tasks as needed such as snow removal leaf raking or litter pickup.

  • Ability to nurture a school environment that celebrates respects and values diversity where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge skill and/or ability required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance to temporary or parttime custodial staff or volunteers as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in custodial or maintenance work preferred.
  • Familiarity with basic repair techniques and maintenance tools.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos. Effective verbal communication skills to interact with staff students and vendors. Ability to write simple reports and communicate maintenance needs clearly. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Basic arithmetic skills required to calculate measurements mix cleaning solutions and track inventory.

REASONING ABILITY:

Strong problemsolving skills to identify and resolve maintenance or custodial issues. Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently with minimal supervision. Flexible and adaptable in response to changing work demands and schedules.



OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Proficiency in operating custodial equipment and tools. Basic understanding of safety procedures including chemical handling and equipment usage. A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.



WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee is frequently exposed to infection at a greater risk than the average person. The employee must work with public and other staff continuously meeting multiple demands from several people.

The physical demands of this job include:

  • Regular standing walking bending and reaching.
  • Lifting and carrying objects up to 80 pounds.
  • Climbing ladders and working at heights for minor maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to operation power machinery such as scrubbers mowers buffers vacuums etc.
  • Subject to physical examination and drug tests
  • Performing repetitive motions associated with cleaning and repair activities.
